Bermuda's airport is small and manageable, which helps when you are travelling with children. The challenge is the limited transport options on the island. No rental cars, no Uber, no airport bus. Taxis and pre-booked transfers are it.
The airport experience with children
The terminal is compact. Immigration can be slow when multiple flights arrive together, and there is no fast-track family lane. Have your arrival cards pre-filled and keep travel documents accessible. Baggage claim is a single belt in a small room. Trolleys are available. The walk from arrivals to the taxi stand is very short, just out the door and you are there.
There are restrooms in the arrivals area but no dedicated family room or play area. If you need to change a baby or reorganize bags, the restroom facilities are basic.

Taxi figures are derived from the government tariff (USD 5.93 to start plus USD 0.64 per fifth of a mile, effective 1 April 2024) and exclude waiting time. A 25% night surcharge applies between 10 PM and 6 AM. Watch the passenger-count surcharge: once a vehicle carries 5-7 people it is 25% more by day and 50% more at night or on a public holiday, so a big family in a van taxi is not simply splitting one fare.
Child seats in Bermuda
Bermuda does not require child car seats by law for taxis, and most taxi drivers do not carry them. If your children are young enough to need a car seat, your best option is to book a private transfer and request seats at the time of booking. Alternatively, bring a travel car seat from home. Some families use an inflatable booster seat, which packs flat in luggage.
Luggage considerations
A family of four easily generates four suitcases plus carry-ons, a stroller, and possibly a car seat. A standard sedan taxi will struggle with this amount of luggage. The ride itself
Bermuda's roads are narrow and winding with a 35 km/h speed limit. The drive to Hamilton takes 30-40 minutes and passes through charming villages. It is scenic but not fast. Children who get car sick on winding roads may struggle. Have water and a bag handy. The roads are well-maintained and smooth.
Recommended approach
For families with young children, book a van transfer with child seats requested in advance. The cost premium over a taxi is modest once you factor in luggage surcharges and the convenience of a guaranteed vehicle.
