George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) sits just 3 km north of central Castries, making it one of the shortest airport-to-city transfers in the Caribbean. Exactly what you pay depends on your driver and destination - Saint Lucia does not operate a government-fixed taxi tariff.
Taxi fares are not government-fixed
According to the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, taxi fares "vary by destination, the number of people, amount of luggage and the company" - there is no published rate card, and the advice is to confirm the fare with the driver before you hire the taxi (stlucia.org, 2026). Treat any price quoted online, including elsewhere on this site, as indicative only, and agree the actual fare with your driver before you set off. Fares are generally per-vehicle rather than per person, which makes taxis reasonable for couples or small groups.

As a rough sense of relative distance from SLU: Castries center is a few minutes away, Rodney Bay and Gros Islet are a longer drive up the coast, Marigot Bay further still, and Soufriere in the south is by far the longest trip on the island.

Important note about airports
If you are flying internationally, double-check whether you land at SLU or UVF (Hewanorra in Vieux Fort). Many visitors heading to resorts in Soufriere or the Pitons book transfers from SLU assuming it is the only airport, then discover their flight actually lands at UVF, 67 km to the south. The price difference for onward transfers is significant.
Currency and payment
The Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD) is the local currency. USD is widely accepted but you may receive change in XCD. Taxis are cash-only in most cases. Pre-booked transfers can often be paid online. ATMs are available in Castries but not at the airport itself, so have some cash ready.
Is it worth the splurge on a private transfer?
For a short hop to Castries, a taxi is perfectly adequate. For anywhere beyond Castries - Rodney Bay, Marigot Bay, or further south - a private transfer with a price confirmed in advance and a driver who knows your exact destination removes the need to negotiate on arrival, particularly useful if you would rather not haggle after a long flight.
