Valencia Airport (VLC) Transfer Guide for Spain

Valencia Airport is just 8 km west of the city center. The drive takes 15-25 minutes. The metro (lines 3 and 5) connects the airport to the center in about 25 minutes; a single ticket includes an airport supplement on top of the standard fare — check the current price on the Metrovalencia app or a ticket machine, as we could not confirm an authoritative live figure. A taxi is metered, not flat-rate: the official day tariff (Generalitat Valenciana, in force since a resolution published 30 December 2025) is 2.00 EUR to start plus 1.36 EUR per km, so the ride into the center runs roughly 13-18 EUR before any night/Sunday/holiday surcharge. VLC is a single-terminal airport, recently expanded to handle growing traffic from European low-cost carriers. It is a modern, clean terminal. After collecting bags, you exit into a spacious arrivals hall with car rental desks, ATMs, and a tourist information counter.

The taxi rank is directly outside the arrivals exit. The metro station is connected to the terminal via a covered walkway — follow the signs marked 'Metrovalencia' and you are there in 3 minutes. The bus stop is outside arrivals as well.

The airport is manageable and rarely overwhelming. Even during peak summer season, you can be out of the terminal and on your way within 15-20 minutes of landing.

Metro: Lines 3 and 5 connect the airport to central Valencia. The journey to Xativa or Colon station (both central) takes about 25 minutes. Trains run every 8-15 minutes depending on the time of day. The metro is clean, safe, and efficient. The only downside is managing heavy luggage during rush hours.

Taxi: Valencia taxis are metered, not flat-rate, whatever some guides claim. The official tariff for the joint service area that includes Manises airport (Generalitat Valenciana, in force since a resolution published 30 December 2025) is 2.00 EUR to start plus 1.36 EUR per km on the day tariff, or 2.60 EUR to start plus 1.48 EUR per km at night, on Sundays, and on holidays. Airport-origin trips carry a 12.50 EUR minimum fare. For the roughly 8 km into the city center that works out to about 13-18 EUR, more on the night tariff or in heavy traffic. The taxi rank outside arrivals is always staffed. You rarely wait more than 5 minutes. Tariffs are reviewed periodically, so check the meter.

Pre-booked private transfer: Your driver meets you in arrivals. The vehicle is typically a newer sedan or minivan. For the short distance to the center, this is a convenience and comfort choice rather than a cost saving over a metered taxi — get a live quote when you book, since pricing varies by operator and vehicle.

EMT Bus (line 150): Runs from the airport to the city center. The journey takes 30-40 minutes with stops. It is the cheapest option but the slowest and least convenient with luggage — check the current single fare with EMT Valencia or the driver, as we could not confirm an authoritative live figure.

Uber / Cabify: Available in Valencia. Pricing is dynamic and set by the app at the time of booking, so check the app for a live quote rather than relying on a fixed figure. Pickup is from the parking area. Wait times are usually short (3-8 minutes).

The metro runs until approximately 11:30 PM (later on Fridays and Saturdays). After that, taxis are your main option. The taxi rank operates 24 hours and late-night supply is generally good at VLC. After 10 PM, on Sundays, and on holidays, the higher night tariff applies (2.60 EUR to start plus 1.48 EUR per km, versus 2.00 EUR + 1.36 EUR/km by day).

Uber and Cabify have reduced availability after midnight but are usually still operational. The drive to the center is fast at night — under 15 minutes with no traffic. A pre-booked transfer guarantees a driver is there regardless of the hour.

Spanish law requires children under 135 cm to use appropriate child restraints in vehicles. Taxis in Spain are exempt from this requirement by law, but it is still safer to use a seat. Private transfer companies can provide child seats when requested in advance.

The metro is manageable with a pushchair and light luggage. For families with heavy suitcases, a taxi or transfer is more practical for the short ride. Standard taxis fit 3 suitcases. For larger groups or extra luggage, minivans can be arranged through private transfer companies.

Pre-booked transfer drivers typically wait in the arrivals hall near the exit with a name sign. Some wait just outside — your booking confirmation will specify.

Book a private transfer if: You are traveling with family, have significant luggage, need a child seat, or are heading to a destination outside the city (Benidorm, Gandia, etc.).

Take the bus if: You are on a tight budget, traveling light, and have time. It is cheap but slow.

Use Uber/Cabify if: You want the cheapest car-based option and are comfortable with rideshare pickups.
