Taxi vs Private Transfer at Valencia Airport

With the airport only 8 km from the center, a taxi gets you there in 15 minutes for about 20 EUR. A private transfer costs more but offers a different experience. Here is how they compare.

Taxis from VLC

Valencia taxis use a flat-rate zone system from the airport. Zone A (city center) is approximately 20 EUR. The taxi rank outside arrivals is always staffed and you rarely wait more than 5 minutes. Supplements apply for night hours (after 10 PM), Sundays, holidays, and extra luggage, potentially adding 2-8 EUR.

Drivers are licensed and know the city well. Most cars are clean and air-conditioned. Credit cards are accepted in most taxis. The experience is efficient and hassle-free for such a short journey.

Pre-booked private transfers

A private transfer costs 30-45 EUR to central Valencia — roughly double the taxi fare. Your driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign. The vehicle is typically newer and more comfortable. Child seats can be arranged. The price is fixed including all supplements.

For an 8 km, 15-minute ride, the service difference is less dramatic than at airports far from the city. The transfer really justifies its price when you are heading beyond Valencia — to Benidorm, Gandia, or other coastal destinations where the journey is longer and having a professional driver matters more.

Uber and Cabify

Both operate in Valencia at 12-20 EUR to the center. This is the cheapest car option during off-peak hours. The pickup is from the parking area, adding a few minutes compared to the taxi rank. For price-sensitive travelers, rideshare offers genuine savings.

When to choose what

Take a taxi if: You want the simplest possible experience. Walk out, get in, arrive in 15 minutes. For 20 EUR, this is excellent value and most travelers heading to the center should just take a taxi.

Book a transfer if: You are heading beyond the city (Benidorm, Gandia, Cullera), need a child seat, have a large group requiring a minivan, or are arriving very late at night when you want guaranteed service.

Use Uber/Cabify if: You want to save a few euros and are comfortable with the rideshare pickup process.

Take the metro if: You are traveling light and your hotel is near a metro station. At 5 EUR, it is the best value for solo travelers.

The honest assessment

For a city this close to its airport, the taxi is hard to beat. A pre-booked transfer makes more sense for specific situations — families, late nights, distant destinations — rather than as a default choice for every traveler. Valencia's taxi system from the airport works well, and the flat rate removes the uncertainty that makes transfers appealing at other airports.
