Arriving late at Marseille Airport: your options after dark

Last updated: July 2026

Marseille Airport handles flights until about midnight. Low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Transavia often have late evening schedules. Here's what works when you arrive after dark.

Last shuttle bus

The airport shuttle to Gare Saint-Charles runs later than most people expect: the airport lists a last departure of about 1:50 AM in the May-October season, with the first departure around 04:05. Outside that season the last bus is earlier, so check the timetable for your travel date on marseille.aeroport.fr.

Taxis after dark

Taxis are available 24/7 at the rank, but availability drops after midnight:

  • Until 10 PM: Plenty of taxis, short wait
  • 10 PM - midnight: Reduced supply, 5-15 minute wait
  • After midnight: Few taxis, possible 15-30 minute wait

Taxis are metered on the prefectural tariff; the airport's night estimate is about €70 to Marseille center, before extras such as baggage and tolls (Marseille Provence Airport, checked July 2026). Ask the driver to confirm before you set off.

Pre-booked transfer

A transfer (€50-70 to center) guarantees your car at a price agreed up front. The driver monitors your flight and is waiting when you exit, regardless of delays. For late arrivals, this is the stress-free option.

No ride-hailing

Remember: Uber barely works in Marseille, and there's no Bolt or similar. At midnight, you cannot summon a car with an app. Your options are the taxi rank or a pre-booked transfer.

Safety at Marseille Airport at night

The airport itself is safe and well-lit. The surrounding area (Marignane/Vitrolles) is quiet at night. No safety concerns at the terminal.

However: Marseille has a reputation for petty crime in some neighborhoods. This doesn't affect the airport or the autoroute drive into the city. Your taxi or transfer will take the A7 motorway directly to the center. Don't leave valuables visible in the car, and be aware of your surroundings when you arrive at your hotel.

If you're stranded

If the last shuttle has gone and no taxis are available:

1. Call a taxi company: Taxi Radio Marseille (+33 4 91 02 20 20) or Taxis Marseillais (+33 4 96 14 19 19) 2. Ask at the airport information desk (if still open) 3. Wait: More taxis usually appear within 20-30 minutes as they return from city drops 4. Airport hotel: Pullman Marseille Airport is connected to the terminal. Not cheap but beats sleeping on a bench.

Our recommendation

Landing before 11 PM: Take the shuttle bus. You'll catch the service comfortably and save most of the cost of a taxi.

Landing 11 PM-midnight: In the May-October season the shuttle is still running; outside it, have a backup. If you miss the bus, take a taxi from the rank.

Landing after the last bus: Pre-book a transfer. It's the only guaranteed option when the shuttle has stopped and taxis are scarce.
