Split Airport: Bus, Taxi, or Private Transfer

Split Airport gives you three practical transport options. Each suits a different type of traveler. Here is an honest assessment of all three.

Bus line 37

The most popular budget choice. Bus 37 runs between the airport and Split's central bus terminal, which sits next to the ferry port — a useful location if you are continuing by boat to one of the islands.

The fare is 2 EUR bought online, at a kiosk, or at the ticket window, or 4 EUR paid to the driver (Promet Split's official tariff, effective 1 June 2026). The bus runs every 20-30 minutes during the day. The journey takes 35-40 minutes including stops through the Kaštela area.

The limitations: this bus drops you at the bus terminal, not your hotel. If your accommodation is in Diocletian's Palace area or a specific part of Split, you may need a short taxi or significant walk with your luggage. With a stroller or multiple large bags, this becomes inconvenient. For evening or late-night arrivals, the bus frequency drops and the last service may have run before your flight lands.

For Trogir, the bus is not the right option — a taxi is fast and a much better choice for that short distance.

Airport taxis

Taxis queue outside the terminal. Fares are metered with a fixed airport pickup rate — there is no single published rate card, so ask the driver for an estimate to your destination before you set off. The cars are modern, air-conditioned, and reliable.

The advantage: no pre-planning required. You walk out, join the queue, and get in a car going directly to your destination. For standard arrivals during daylight, the wait is usually short.

During peak summer afternoons when multiple flights arrive together, the taxi queue can stretch to 20-30 minutes. Late evening, fewer cars are available.

Pre-booked private transfer

A driver assigned to your flight waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign. You go directly to your accommodation at a price fixed when you book, which you can compare against a taxi estimate.

The main advantage is certainty. The price is agreed in advance, the driver knows your destination, and there is no queue. For late arrivals, early departures, families with children, or anyone going to a less central destination like Makarska or Omiš, this is the most reliable option.

If you are going to Hvar and need a transfer to a specific ferry terminal, a pre-booked service lets you confirm the correct drop-off point in advance — important because the car ferry and catamaran use different berths.

Price comparison

Solo traveler to Split center:

• Bus: 2-4 EUR
• Taxi / transfer: get a quote — no fixed rate card exists for either

Couple to Split center:

• Bus: 4-8 EUR total
• Taxi / transfer: get a quote

Family of four to Split center:

• Bus: 8-16 EUR total (plus likely a second taxi from bus terminal)
• Taxi / transfer: get a quote — often comparable once the second taxi from the bus terminal is factored in

Any traveler to Trogir:

• Bus: Not practical for Trogir
• Taxi / transfer: one of the cheapest routes in the area given the 6 km distance — confirm the fare directly

The practical recommendation

Solo travelers and couples going to central Split: bus line 37 is hard to beat on price if you have reasonable luggage and it is daytime.

Families, groups, anyone going to Trogir, Makarska, Omiš, or the Hvar ferry: a taxi or pre-booked transfer wins on convenience. The bus saving shrinks once you factor in a second taxi from the bus terminal.

Late arrivals or early morning departures: pre-book a transfer. The bus schedule is reduced and taxi availability thins out outside peak hours.
