Getting from Zagreb Airport to the city center

Zagreb Airport (Franjo Tudman) is about 17 km southeast of the city center. The drive takes 20-35 minutes. A taxi costs around 25-35 EUR, the shuttle bus costs about 8 EUR, and a pre-booked transfer runs $25-45 USD. The airport is a modern single terminal that opened in 2017. Croatia uses the euro since January 2023, which simplifies payment for European visitors.

The terminal is modern and efficient. Croatia joined the Schengen zone in 2023, so arrivals from other Schengen countries skip passport control. Non-Schengen arrivals pass through immigration, which is usually fast.

Baggage claim has several carousels in a clean, well-lit area. After collecting your bags, you walk through a small customs zone (green channel if nothing to declare) into the arrivals hall. ATMs, a currency exchange, car rental desks, and a tourist information counter are in this area. The exit to ground transport is clearly marked.

Taxi: Official taxis wait outside arrivals. Expect 25-35 EUR to the city center. Taxis use meters and prices are regulated. Several companies operate at the airport. Card payment is accepted by most drivers.

Ride-hailing apps: Bolt operates in Zagreb and works at the airport. Prices to the center are often 15-25 EUR, cheaper than taxis. Wait times are usually reasonable.

Pre-booked transfer: A driver meets you at arrivals with a name sign. Fixed price, typically $25-45 USD for a sedan. Useful for late arrivals or if you want guaranteed availability.

The terminal is modern with elevators, luggage trolleys, and accessible paths. The shuttle bus has luggage storage underneath but maneuvering children, bags, and a stroller onto a bus after a flight is not ideal.

Croatian taxis and ride-hailing vehicles do not routinely carry child car seats. If you need one, arrange it through a transfer service when booking. Standard taxis can handle a family of four with moderate luggage, but larger groups should book a minivan.

Pre-booked transfer drivers wait in the arrivals hall near the exit with a name sign. The terminal is modern and open-plan, making drivers easy to spot. The taxi rank is directly outside the main exit. The shuttle bus stop is also near the main exit, signposted.
