Arriving at Split Airport Late at Night

Last updated: March 2026

Split is a major summer charter destination. Flights regularly land after 10 PM, and late-season low-cost carriers sometimes touch down well past midnight. Here is what to expect when you arrive outside normal hours.

The airport at night

The terminal stays open for all scheduled arrivals. Immigration, baggage claim, and the ATM in the arrivals hall all operate normally. The cafe and most shops close by the evening, so plan accordingly if you need food or a drink on arrival.

The arrivals process is typically faster at night — fewer flights means shorter queues at passport control for non-Schengen travelers.

Bus line 37 at night

Bus line 37 runs reduced services in the evening and may not be operating for the final flights of the day. The last bus from the airport to Split typically departs around 11:30 PM, but this varies by season and schedule year.

Do not count on the bus for flights landing after 10 PM without checking the current timetable. If your flight is delayed and pushes your arrival past the last bus, you will need a taxi or transfer regardless.

Taxis at night

Taxis are available after evening flights. The number of cars at the rank is smaller than during afternoon peaks, but a short wait of 5-10 minutes is usually sufficient to get one. If a large charter flight lands and 200 passengers all need rides simultaneously, wait times stretch.

Fares at night are the same as daytime for most taxi drivers — Croatian airport taxis do not routinely add night surcharges, but confirm with the driver before getting in.

The case for pre-booking

A pre-booked transfer is the most reliable option for late-night arrivals. The driver monitors your actual flight arrival time, handles any delays without you needing to communicate, and is there when you exit. There is no queue and no uncertainty.

The drive to Split at night takes about 20-25 minutes — the Kaštela coastal road is quiet and the journey is smooth. To Trogir, it is 10 minutes.

Arriving in Split late

Split's Old Town (Diocletian's Palace area) is lively during summer even at midnight. Restaurants stay open late, bars are busy, and the narrow streets are safe and animated.

However, parking and vehicle access in the Old Town center is limited. Your driver will drop you at the nearest accessible point to your accommodation. From there, you may need to walk through pedestrianized streets with your luggage. Ask your host in advance about the best access point for a late arrival.

For accommodation in Trogir's old town, similar considerations apply — it is a small island connected by bridges, and vehicle access inside the historic center is restricted.

Practical tips for late arrivals

Have euros in cash as a backup for the taxi. Most drivers accept cards, but having cash avoids any issues.

Save your accommodation address and host's phone number offline before landing. Connectivity at the airport is fine, but having backup information is good practice.

If you are arriving very late and have an early start the next day (such as a morning ferry to Hvar), consider staying near the ferry terminal in Split rather than in the Old Town — easier for luggage and closer to your next departure.
