Getting from Marseille Airport to your destination

Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) is 27 km from the city center, about 25-35 minutes by car via the autoroute. The airport shuttle bus takes about 25 minutes to Gare Saint-Charles (main station) — its fares changed on 1 July 2026, so check the current price before you travel. Taxis are metered on the prefectural tariff: the airport estimates €60 by day and €70 at night to Marseille or Aix, before extras. Uber is not widely available at MRS. A pre-booked transfer runs €45-70 for a sedan.

Marseille Provence Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 (most airlines) and Terminal 2 (some low-cost carriers). They're close together — a 5-minute walk. After passport control and baggage claim, you exit to the arrivals hall. The airport is modern but not huge.

The shuttle bus stop is directly outside the terminal. The taxi rank is to the right. Car rental desks are in the arrivals hall. There's no rail connection to the airport (a planned metro extension hasn't materialized yet).

Airport shuttle bus (Navette Aeroport): The most popular option. Direct to Gare Saint-Charles (Marseille's main train station), about 25 minutes via the autoroute, every 10 minutes between 07:00 and 20:00 and less often outside those hours. Comfortable coaches with luggage space. Fares changed on 1 July 2026 and the airport no longer publishes a headline price — check marseille.aeroport.fr before you travel, or buy online, from the machines, at the counter, or on board.

Taxi: Not a flat fare, despite what you may read elsewhere. Marseille airport taxis are metered on the Bouches-du-Rhone prefectural kilometric tariff, not a flat airport fare. The airport's own estimate is about 60 EUR by day and 70 EUR at night to reach Marseille or Aix, and that estimate excludes extras such as baggage and tolls (Marseille Provence Airport, checked July 2026). Tariffs are revised periodically, so confirm with the driver before you set off. Taxis take the A7 autoroute.

Uber: Has very limited presence in Marseille. Don't count on it at the airport. Bolt and similar apps don't operate here either.

Car rental: All major companies present. Useful if heading to Aix-en-Provence, the Calanques, or Provence.

Pre-booked transfer: Sedan €45-65, minivan €60-90. Driver at arrivals with name sign. Same route as taxis but with meet-and-greet and guaranteed availability.

Train: No direct train from the airport. You'd need to take the shuttle bus to Gare Saint-Charles first. (There is a rail station at Vitrolles, 5 km from the airport, but getting there is impractical.)

The shuttle bus runs late — the airport lists a last departure of about 1:50 AM in the May-October season, earlier the rest of the year, so check the timetable for your travel date. After that, taxis are your only reliable option. The airport's night estimate is about €70 to Marseille center, before extras. Taxis are available 24/7 at the rank, but supply drops significantly after midnight. A pre-booked transfer guarantees a car for very late arrivals.

The shuttle bus has decent luggage space underneath. For families, it's fine for the 25-minute ride. Taxis are large sedans (often Peugeot 508 or Mercedes) and handle luggage well. For child seats: neither taxis nor the shuttle bus have them. Pre-booked transfers can provide child seats on request. If heading to Provence with family, renting a car with child seats is the practical long-term option.

Shuttle bus: Stop is directly outside the terminal exit, well-signed "Navette Marseille."

Taxi: Rank is outside arrivals, to the right. Follow the "Taxi" signs.

Transfer: Driver waits inside the arrivals hall with your name on a sign.

Car rental: Desks inside the arrivals hall, cars in the adjacent parking lot.

• Going to Marseille center: Shuttle bus (25 min) for budget — far cheaper than any car. Taxi (~€60 by day, airport estimate) for door-to-door.
• Going to Aix-en-Provence: Shuttle bus to Aix (separate service, 30 min). Or taxi/transfer.
• Going to Cassis, Calanques, or Provence: Pre-booked transfer or rental car.
• Family with car seats: Transfer or rental car.
• Late night: Taxi (~€70 night estimate) or pre-booked transfer.
• Solo budget traveler: Shuttle bus, no question.
