Bermuda is one of the more expensive island destinations in the world, and transport reflects that. There is no budget option from the airport. Taxis and pre-booked transfers are your choices, and neither is cheap. The good news is that the taxi meter is published by the government, so the fare is genuinely predictable.
Understanding Bermuda taxi fares
Bermuda taxi meters are regulated by the Government of Bermuda. The rates, effective 1 April 2024, are:

Bermuda uses the Bermudian Dollar (BMD), pegged 1:1 to the US Dollar, and USD is accepted everywhere.

Because the meter is published, these figures are calculated straight from it — distance times the per-mile rate plus the initial charge. They exclude waiting time, so the real fare will run a little higher in traffic:

Why pre-booked transfers cost more
Transfer prices are not set by the government tariff. They are quoted per booking, based on the distance and the vehicle, and the quoted price is the price you pay — it includes meet-and-greet, flight monitoring, a guaranteed vehicle, and no meter running while you sit in traffic or surcharge because you landed at 11 PM. That predictability is what you are paying for, and it is worth more on the long runs to Southampton and Dockyard than on the short hop to St. George's.
There is no cheap option
Bermuda has no airport bus and no rental cars for tourists. The public bus system does not serve the airport directly. The nearest bus stop on Blue Hole Hill is a 15-minute walk with no sidewalk in places, making it impractical with luggage. Ride-hailing apps have not operated on the island, though the government has been introducing a ridesharing permit framework — check what is running when you travel. Accept that transport from the airport will cost around USD 40 or more for most destinations and plan accordingly.
Tipping
Tipping taxi drivers in Bermuda is customary. 15-20% of the fare is standard. This is expected rather than optional, similar to US tipping culture.
