Agadir Al Massira Airport to City Centre — What You Actually Need to Know

Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) sits outside the city, to the south-east, on a good dual carriageway. There is no train or metro connection. Your realistic options are a pre-booked private transfer, a grand taxi, or the infrequent public bus.

One warning about money before you go further: nobody official publishes what any of this should cost. The airport authority's own page lists taxi and bus services without a single fare, and Moroccan grand taxi fares to the airport are negotiated in practice. Every price you will read online for this route — including the ones this page used to carry — is an estimate. The only way to know a number in advance is to pre-book a transfer and have it fixed in writing, which is why most travellers do exactly that.

AGA is a relatively modern terminal that handles both domestic and international flights. After passport control — which can take 15 to 40 minutes depending on how many charter flights land at once — you collect your luggage and walk through a small customs area. The arrivals hall is straightforward but not large.

Once you exit, you will see a row of transfer company representatives holding name signs on the left side, and the taxi rank is directly outside the terminal doors. There are a few car rental counters inside the terminal as well.

The airport has a currency exchange bureau in the arrivals hall, but rates are not great. There are also ATMs that dispense Moroccan dirhams (MAD). It is worth having some cash for smaller purchases, though most hotels and larger restaurants accept cards.

The grand taxi system in Morocco works differently from what most Europeans are used to. These are shared taxis — usually old Mercedes sedans — that wait until they have enough passengers before departing. If you want the taxi to yourself, you pay for all seats. Prices are technically regulated but negotiation is common, especially with tourists.

The public bus (line 22) runs between the airport and Agadir city centre, but service is infrequent and not available late at night. It is cheap but slow, and not practical with heavy luggage.

There is no published tariff for this route. ONDA, the Moroccan airport authority, lists the taxi and bus services at Al Massira on its own website without quoting a single fare. Grand taxi prices are technically regulated but negotiated in practice, and the figure you are quoted at the rank depends on the hour, the queue and how tired you look. Every number circulating online for an AGA transfer — this page's old ones included — is somebody's estimate, dressed up as a fare and quietly ageing as the dirham moves.

So, the honest version:

• A grand taxi is negotiated. Agree the price before you get in, not after. Drivers at the rank open high with arriving tourists and expect a counter.
• A pre-booked private transfer is fixed when you book. You see the number before you fly. At an airport with no published tariff, that is the entire argument for it.
• Line 22 is a standard local bus fare and by far the cheapest thing here — but it is slow, daytime-only and impractical with luggage.

Destinations further up the coast — Taghazout, and Essaouira in particular — are longer journeys and cost accordingly. Get them quoted.

AGA receives charter flights from Europe throughout the evening and into the night. If you land after 22:00, the public bus will not be running and the grand taxi situation becomes unpredictable — fewer drivers, longer waits, and higher prices.

Pre-booking a transfer is strongly recommended for late arrivals. Your driver will track your flight and wait even if it is delayed. Walking out of the terminal at midnight with luggage and trying to negotiate a fair price in an unfamiliar country is not ideal, especially after a long journey.

Comfort matters on this run, especially with children. A grand taxi with three adults and luggage is already tight — add a child seat requirement and it becomes impractical.

Pre-booked transfers can include child seats and booster seats if you request them in advance. This matters because Moroccan taxis do not carry child restraints, and the road from the airport to Agadir includes some fast-moving sections.

If you are travelling with surfboards or golf clubs, mention this when booking — most transfer companies can accommodate oversized luggage with a larger vehicle at a modest surcharge.

If you have pre-booked a transfer, your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall just after you exit customs, holding a sign with your name. Some companies also send a text or WhatsApp message with the driver's name and photo.

For taxis, turn right as you exit the terminal building. The grand taxi rank is clearly signed. There may also be unofficial drivers approaching you inside the terminal — it is generally better to use the official rank or your pre-arranged transfer.

The airport has free Wi-Fi in the terminal, so you can contact your transfer company if needed before heading outside.

Book a private transfer if: you are arriving late, travelling with family, have lots of luggage, or simply want a fixed price and no negotiation after a long flight.

Take a grand taxi if: you are a solo traveller or couple on a budget, you speak some French or Arabic, and you arrive during daytime hours.

Take the bus if: you have minimal luggage, plenty of time, arrive during the day, and want the cheapest possible option.

Rent a car if: you plan to explore the Souss-Massa region, visit Taroudant, or drive the coast. The road from AGA to Agadir is a good dual carriageway.
