Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport sits about 12 km south of Tangier city center. A taxi to the medina or downtown takes 20 to 30 minutes and costs 150 to 200 MAD (roughly 14 to 19 EUR). A pre-booked private transfer runs 20 to 35 EUR for a sedan. The airport is modern and manageable, with a single terminal that handles both domestic and international flights.

The terminal is relatively new, expanded in recent years to handle growing traffic. After passport control (which can be slow for non-Moroccan passport holders, allow 20-40 minutes), you collect your luggage and walk through a small arrivals hall. You will need to fill out an entry form on the plane or at immigration. Once outside, you are immediately at the taxi area and parking lot. There is a currency exchange inside arrivals and an ATM. Morocco uses the Dirham (MAD), and you cannot buy it outside the country, so the airport exchange is where most visitors get their first cash.

Petit taxis (the blue city taxis) are not allowed to serve the airport. You will only find grand taxis here.

Pre-booked private transfers are increasingly popular. The driver meets you in arrivals, the price is fixed, and you avoid the negotiation entirely. Particularly useful if it is your first time in Morocco.

Rental cars are available from counters in the terminal. Driving in Tangier itself is manageable, though the medina streets are not car-friendly.

Public transport does not directly serve the airport. There is no bus or train connection to the terminal as of 2026.

A grand taxi to Tangier city center or the medina costs 150 to 200 MAD (14 to 19 EUR) if you negotiate well. Some drivers will initially quote 250 to 300 MAD. A pre-booked transfer runs 20 to 35 EUR for a sedan. To Tangier port or the TGV station, expect similar prices. For destinations further afield like Chefchaouen (about 110 km), a private transfer costs 80 to 120 EUR. Asilah (about 45 km south) runs 40 to 60 EUR.

Tangier Airport receives flights until late evening, including budget carriers from Europe. Grand taxis are usually available for all arriving flights, but after midnight the number of drivers thins out and prices go up. Negotiating power drops significantly late at night. If your flight lands after 22:00, a pre-booked transfer takes the uncertainty out of the equation. The drive into town is quick at night with empty roads.

Grand taxis are spacious Mercedes sedans that fit luggage well, but they are old and do not have modern safety features. No seatbelts in the back seat is common. For families with children, a private transfer with a proper vehicle is the better choice. Child car seats do not exist in the grand taxi system. If you need one, request it specifically when booking a private transfer. The airport itself is easy to navigate with children, everything is on one level.

Pre-booked transfer drivers wait in the arrivals hall with a name board, or just outside the exit doors. The terminal is small enough that finding each other is straightforward. Mobile coverage is good at the airport. WhatsApp is the most common communication method in Morocco, and your driver will likely use it to coordinate.
