Mohammed V International Airport to Casablanca — The Honest Guide

Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) is located 30 km south of Casablanca city center. You have three solid options: the ONCF train running directly to Casa Voyageurs station in about 45 minutes for MAD 70 (EUR 6.50), a taxi for MAD 250–350 (EUR 23–33) taking 35–50 minutes, or a pre-booked private transfer for MAD 300–400 (EUR 28–37). The train is excellent during operating hours. Outside those hours, you need a taxi or transfer.

CMN has two terminals — Terminal 1 handles most international flights, Terminal 2 serves some low-cost carriers and domestic flights. Both terminals are connected and manageable on foot.

After immigration and baggage claim, you enter the arrivals hall. Currency exchange booths are available but offer mediocre rates — withdraw from the ATMs (BMCE, Attijariwafa) instead, which accept Visa and Mastercard. SIM cards from Maroc Telecom, Orange, and Inwi cost around MAD 30–50 (EUR 2.80–4.70) with data.

The arrivals area has a few cafes and a pharmacy. Signage is in Arabic, French, and English. The train station is inside the airport complex, accessible via a covered walkway from Terminal 1. Follow signs for "Gare ONCF."

The train is the best option during operating hours — it runs from approximately 6 AM to 11 PM, departing every hour. It drops you at Casa Voyageurs station in central Casablanca, where you can take a petit taxi to your hotel for MAD 20–40 (EUR 1.80–3.70).

Grand taxis are the large beige Mercedes sedans at the official rank outside arrivals. The fare is regulated but drivers may try to charge more. The official posted rate to Casablanca center is around MAD 300. Insist on the official rate or ask an airport officer for help.

Petit taxis (the small red city taxis) are not permitted to operate at the airport. You will only find grand taxis here.

Morocco uses the dirham (MAD). As of early 2026, 1 EUR is roughly 10.7 MAD.

Tipping is customary in Morocco. For taxi and transfer drivers, MAD 20–30 is appropriate for a Casablanca run. For long-distance trips to Marrakech or Rabat, MAD 50–100 is appreciated.

Many flights from the Gulf, Turkey, and sub-Saharan Africa arrive at CMN after 11 PM. The last train departs around 11 PM, and the first morning train is around 6 AM. Between those hours, your options are grand taxis and pre-booked transfers only.

Grand taxis are available 24 hours at the official rank, but the drivers at night know they have leverage. Negotiating down to the official rate can be harder at 2 AM. A pre-booked transfer eliminates this friction entirely.

The airport terminal stays open overnight for passengers with early departures, so if you are stuck, you can wait inside. However, there are no hotels within walking distance of the terminal.

The train is comfortable but has limited luggage space. If you travel with a stroller, multiple suitcases, and young children, a transfer or grand taxi is more practical.

Grand taxis fit 3 passengers and luggage comfortably. For families of 4–5 with heavy bags, book a minivan transfer. Standard grand taxis are large Mercedes sedans but trunk space is still limited.

Child seats are not available in Moroccan taxis. Pre-booked transfer services can arrange them with advance notice.

Grand taxi: Exit arrivals and walk to the official taxi rank on the right. There is usually a queue system managed by a dispatcher.

Pre-booked transfer: Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. Most services send you driver details and a phone number via WhatsApp before your flight.

Airport Wi-Fi is free but slow. Having your driver's number saved offline is wise.

Choose a pre-booked transfer if: you arrive late at night, travel with family, have lots of luggage, or are heading beyond Casablanca (Rabat, Marrakech).

Choose a grand taxi if: you arrive during the day, are comfortable negotiating in French or Arabic, and want door-to-door service without pre-booking.

Choose the CTM bus if: you are on a very tight budget and your schedule aligns with the limited departures.

The train makes CMN one of the better-connected airports in Africa. Use it when you can. When you cannot, book ahead.
