How much does it cost to get from Astana Airport to the city?

Last updated: July 2026

Astana Airport is 15 km from the city center, and transport here is genuinely cheap by European standards. But only one price is actually published, so it is the only one we quote.

The almost-free option: the city bus

Routes 10 and 12 serve the airport, with an express service as well. Astana's fare system charges 110 ₸ with an Onay transport card and 220 ₸ in cash for a single adult journey on a city route — paying cash costs exactly double, so the card is worth having (Astana's official fare payment system, transcard.kz). Children aged 7-18 with a valid school card travel free. Suburban-zone routes start at 110 ₸ by card and rise with the zone, so check which applies to your route.

That is the single most useful fact on this page: cash costs double. Pick up an Onay card if you can. It is a basic city bus with stops along the way, so it is slow — but for a solo traveller with a small bag it is one of the cheapest airport runs in the world. Buses do not run all night; check the current first and last departures.

The practical option: a ride-hailing app

Use Yandex Go or InDrive. Both price each trip dynamically and show you the fare before you confirm, which is what makes them the fair-price option — the number you see in the app is the number you pay, and it moves with demand, weather and time of day. We are not printing app fares, because any figure written here would be wrong within weeks and there is no published tariff to anchor it to.

Upgrading to a larger or more comfortable car category costs more, and the app shows you exactly how much before you commit.

The hassle-free option: a private transfer

Pre-booked, driver waiting inside arrivals with your name, price fixed per vehicle at booking. Check the live quote for your vehicle size and destination. In an Astana winter this is less about money than about not standing outside.

The airport rank — check the app first

Rank prices are not published anywhere, and drivers at the rank have a long-standing reputation for quoting foreigners well above the going rate. We are not going to print what they "should" charge, because there is no official figure to cite and a made-up one would just be another number to argue with.

The fix is simple and works every time: open Yandex Go before you talk to anyone. The app's quote for your exact trip is your reference price. Then either take the app car, or negotiate at the rank knowing what the ride is genuinely worth.

Currency and payment tips

  • ATMs at the airport give a fair rate. Use them instead of exchange counters
  • Cards are widely accepted in Astana — restaurants, shops, and taxis via app
  • Yandex Go accepts card payment through the app — no cash needed
  • Onay card for buses — cash on board costs double
  • Tipping is not expected in taxis but appreciated

We have removed the euro conversions this page used to carry. They rested on an exchange rate hardcoded into the text, which dates silently and drags every figure derived from it out of true. If you need a conversion, check the rate on the day.

Bottom line

Astana is genuinely affordable for airport transfers, and the gap between the cheapest and most comfortable option is small in absolute terms. The two things worth knowing: use an Onay card if you take the bus, and open the ride-hailing app before you speak to anyone at the rank.
