Tancredo Neves Airport is modern and manageable with children. The challenge is the 40 km distance to the city — that is a meaningful car ride with tired kids.
Inside the terminal
CNF was renovated for the 2014 World Cup and it shows. The terminal is clean, spacious, and well-signed in Portuguese and English. Luggage trolleys are available at baggage claim. Restrooms are clean and there are baby-changing facilities in some areas.
The arrivals hall has a pharmacy, cafes, and a small convenience store. Stock up on water and snacks before leaving — the 40-minute drive has no reliable stops.
Child seats and Brazilian law
Brazilian traffic law (Codigo de Transito Brasileiro) requires children under 7.5 years to use appropriate child restraints. Children under 1 must be in a rear-facing seat. Between 1 and 4, a forward-facing child seat is required. Between 4 and 7.5, a booster seat is mandatory.
Standard taxis and ride-hailing vehicles do not carry child seats. Enforcement is inconsistent, but the law is clear. If you want to comply — and you should for your child's safety — book a private transfer and request the appropriate seat at least 24 hours in advance.

The bus option for families
The Conexao Aeroporto bus is comfortable and cheap — ask at its counter for the current fare, as the airport does not publish it — but it has limitations for families. Luggage compartments accommodate standard suitcases but not oversized items easily. If you have a stroller, multiple bags, and small children, the bus adds stress that you do not need after a flight.
For families with older kids (8+) traveling light, the bus is a reasonable choice.
Practical tips
Download offline maps. Data connectivity may be spotty until you get a SIM card. Google Maps works offline if you download the Belo Horizonte area before your trip.
Bring entertainment for the car. The 40–60 minute drive is long enough that small children will get restless, especially after a flight.
Consider Pampulha. If your plans include the Pampulha architectural complex (Oscar Niemeyer's UNESCO site), staying in that neighbourhood puts you closer to the airport, cutting the trip to roughly 25 km instead of 40 — which matters on a metered taxi and on a tired child.

With children, the benefits are clear: the driver meets you inside, helps with bags, has the right vehicle and child seat ready, and charges a price fixed before you landed rather than one the meter works out in traffic.
