Recife's Guararapes-Gilberto Freyre International Airport sits about 11 km south of the city center in the Imbiribeira neighborhood. That is close by Brazilian standards. Boa Viagem beach, where many tourists stay, is only about 7 km from the terminal.

You will land at the single passenger terminal. Immigration for international arrivals is on the upper level and moves at a moderate pace — expect 20-40 minutes depending on flight size. After clearing customs, you exit into the arrivals hall on the ground floor. ATMs from Banco do Brasil and Bradesco are available near the exit, but note that many accept only cards with chip technology. The free airport Wi-Fi works but can be unreliable during busy periods.

The arrivals area has a few cafes and a currency exchange counter, though exchange rates at the airport are poor. If you need Brazilian reais, withdraw from an ATM instead — the rates are significantly better.
