TLL - Tallinn

How much it costs to get from Tallinn Airport to the city

Last updated: February 2026

Tallinn Airport is 4 km from the city center. This is one of the cheapest airport transfers in Europe, regardless of which option you choose.

Price breakdown

Tram (Line 4): 1.50 EUR with a prepaid transport card, 2.00 EUR with a contactless bank card. The cheapest door-to-almost-door option. Runs until about 23:30.

Bolt: 4-8 EUR depending on demand. Usually at the lower end. This is Bolt's home city, so availability is excellent.

Taxi (metered): 5-10 EUR. Meters are standard and honest. The base fare plus the short distance keeps costs low.

Pre-booked transfer (sedan): $15-25 USD. Premium over taxi but includes meet-and-greet and guaranteed vehicle.

Pre-booked transfer (minivan): $25-40 USD. For groups or families needing extra space.

Prices to specific areas

  • Old Town: 5-8 EUR by taxi, $15-20 by transfer
  • Viru Square: 5-8 EUR by taxi, $15-20 by transfer
  • Telliskivi (creative district): 6-9 EUR by taxi, $15-22 by transfer
  • Pirita (beach area, 12 km): 12-18 EUR by taxi, $25-35 by transfer
  • Tallinn Port (cruise terminal): 7-10 EUR by taxi, $18-25 by transfer

Why Tallinn is so cheap

The simple answer is distance. At 4 km, the airport is practically in the city. Even at European taxi rates, the meter barely has time to accumulate. Combined with Estonia's reasonable cost of living (compared to Scandinavia or Western Europe), transport from the airport is genuinely inexpensive.

Payment practicalities

Estonia uses the euro and is one of the most cashless societies in the world. You can pay by card on the tram, in taxis, and through Bolt. Carrying cash is optional. ATMs are available in the terminal if you prefer cash.

Cost comparison with other Baltic airports

Tallinn is comparable to Riga and Vilnius in pricing but benefits from the shortest distance. Riga Airport is about 10 km from the center, and Vilnius is about 7 km. Tallinn's 4 km makes it the cheapest of the three for taxi or transfer rides.

Tips

  • Bolt is often the cheapest door-to-door option at 4-6 EUR
  • The tram is worthwhile if you are traveling light and want to save a few euros
  • A pre-booked transfer mainly makes sense when you need a specific vehicle type, not for cost savings
  • There are no tolls or surcharges on the route between the airport and the city
  • Tipping is appreciated but not expected in Estonian taxis
This is an airport where cost should not factor heavily into your transport decision. The differences between options are a matter of a few euros. Choose based on convenience and comfort rather than price.
