Tallinn Airport handles some late-evening flights, particularly from London, and occasional red-eye arrivals. If you land after the tram stops, here is what to expect.
The terminal after hours
The terminal remains accessible but quiet. Most shops, cafes, and service desks close by late evening. ATMs remain operational. Free Wi-Fi works around the clock. The terminal is modern, well-lit, and safe, but there are limited facilities for spending the night.
What stops running
Tram Line 4 stops around 23:30. This is the only significant change. Taxis and Bolt continue to operate through the night without interruption. Given the extremely short distance to the city (4 km), late-night transport is simpler here than at almost any other European airport.
Your late-night options
Taxi from the rank: Available around the clock. Metered fares to the city center remain 5-10 EUR regardless of the hour. Tallinn taxis do not add nighttime surcharges in most cases, though the meter rate may be slightly higher after midnight. Card payment is accepted.
Bolt: Works well at night in Tallinn. You might wait a few minutes longer than during the day, but rides are available. Expect 5-9 EUR to the center.
Pre-booked transfer: Guarantees a driver waiting for you regardless of your arrival time. Useful if your flight is delayed and you want certainty that someone will be there at 2 AM.
How the ride feels at night
The drive from Tallinn Airport to the city center at night takes about 8-10 minutes. Roads are empty, the route is well-lit, and there is nothing complicated about the journey. You are essentially driving through a residential area into the city.
Is it safe?
Tallinn is one of the safest capitals in Europe. The airport area and the city center are both safe at night. Taking a taxi or Bolt at any hour is perfectly normal and carries no elevated risk.
Practical tips
- The tram is not an option after 23:30, but taxis and Bolt are cheap enough that this barely matters
- Have the Bolt app downloaded and set up before your trip
- Card payment works everywhere, so cash is not essential
- The airport terminal is not ideal for waiting until morning, and there is no real reason to since a taxi costs under 10 EUR
- If pre-booking a transfer, include your flight number so the driver can track any delays
