Paris Orly: Taxi or private transfer?

Last updated: March 2026

Paris is one of the few cities where flat-rate airport taxis are genuinely great value. This changes the usual taxi vs. transfer calculation.

Price comparison

| Destination | Flat-rate taxi | Private transfer | |---|---|---| | Left Bank (5e-7e, 13e-15e) | 35 EUR | 40-55 EUR | | Right Bank (1er-4e, 8e-11e, 16e-20e) | 44 EUR | 45-60 EUR | | La Defense | 44 EUR | 55-70 EUR | | Disneyland Paris | ~80-100 EUR (metered) | 70-95 EUR | | Versailles | ~55-70 EUR (metered) | 55-75 EUR |

For central Paris, the flat-rate taxi is cheaper by 5-15 EUR. For destinations outside Paris (where flat rates don't apply), transfers are often better.

When the taxi wins

  • Going to central Paris — the flat rate of 35 or 44 EUR is hard to beat
  • 1-3 people with luggage — standard Paris taxis are spacious enough
  • No pre-planning needed — join the queue, get in, go
  • The price is regulated — no scams, no negotiation, no surprises
Paris taxis got a bad reputation years ago, but the flat-rate system fixed most problems. Drivers must use the flat rate from airports — it's the law. If a driver tries to use the meter instead, refuse and report them.

When the transfer wins

  • Families with child seats — French taxis don't carry them
  • Groups of 4+ — you'll need two taxis (at 35-44 EUR each). A minivan transfer at 55-75 EUR saves money
  • Going to Disneyland/Versailles/outside Paris — flat rates don't apply, so the metered fare can be high. Fixed-price transfers are better
  • Meet-and-greet — the driver finds you in arrivals, helps with bags, walks you to the car
  • Flight delay protection — transfer drivers track your flight and adjust

The queue factor

Orly's taxi rank can have significant queues during peak hours. Wait times of 15-30 minutes are not unusual when multiple flights arrive. A pre-booked transfer eliminates this — your car is waiting.

Uber / VTC from Orly

Uber and other VTC (voiture de transport avec chauffeur) apps work from Orly. Prices fluctuate:

  • Off-peak: often 25-38 EUR to central Paris (cheaper than a taxi!)
  • Peak/surge: can exceed 50 EUR
Pickup is from dedicated VTC zones outside each terminal. It's a legitimate and often cheaper alternative to taxis.

Vehicle quality

Paris taxis: mixed fleet — Peugeots, Toyotas, some Mercedes. Generally clean but not luxurious. The car you get is random.

Transfers: usually newer vehicles — Mercedes E-Class, V-Class minivans. Consistently higher quality.

Uber Berline / VTC: mid-range to high-end, depending on category.

Our honest take

The Paris flat-rate taxi system is genuinely excellent. At 35 EUR to the Left Bank with no supplements, it's one of Europe's fairest airport taxi deals. For 1-3 people going to central Paris, just take the taxi.

Choose a transfer when you need child seats, travel as a group, or go beyond central Paris. And check Uber — sometimes it's the cheapest of all.
