Getting from Landvetter Airport (GOT) to Gothenburg

Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is about 25 km east of Gothenburg city center. A pre-booked private transfer costs around SEK 550–800 (EUR 48–70). Taxi prices are not regulated in Sweden — each company sets its own, so check the yellow comparison-price sticker on the car before you get in. The Flygbussarna airport coach is the best value and takes about 30 minutes to Gothenburg Central Station (Nils Ericson Terminal).

Landvetter is a calm, well-organized airport. Connections to the city are straightforward — there is no rail link, so it is either bus, taxi, or transfer. Traffic on the E20 motorway is usually light, so journey times are predictable.

Landvetter has a single terminal. International flights arrive on the upper level. Immigration for non-EU/EEA travelers takes 10–20 minutes — Sweden is efficient. Baggage claim is compact and bags usually arrive within 15–20 minutes.

The arrivals hall has ATMs (Swedbank, SEB), a Forex currency exchange counter, and a tourist information point. Sweden is almost entirely cashless — credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) work everywhere, including buses and taxis. You do not strictly need Swedish Kronor in cash.

Free Wi-Fi ("Swedavia Free WiFi") is available throughout the terminal and works well.

The Flygbussarna airport coach is the default option for most travelers. Buses depart every 15–20 minutes, take about 30 minutes, and drop you at Nils Ericson Terminal right next to Gothenburg Central Station. Buy online in advance — Swedavia warns that buying on board is not always possible, and the online price is usually the cheaper one. The bus has luggage storage, Wi-Fi, and USB charging.

Taxis queue outside the arrivals exit. Major companies include Taxi Göteborg and Taxi Kurir. Sweden does not regulate taxi prices — every company sets its own, and at an airport rank they can differ sharply. What the law does require is the jämförpris (comparison price): the fare for a standard 10 km, 15-minute trip, shown in black on a yellow background both outside and inside the car, for every time of day and day of the week. If a company’s jämförpris is over SEK 700, it must give you a binding price quote before you set off. Read the yellow sticker before you open the door — that is what it is there for.

There is no train or tram connection to Landvetter Airport, but Flygbussarna is not the only bus. Swedavia also lists FlixBus route 691 into Gothenburg city centre, Västtrafik route 612 to Landvetter town centre, and Vy Bus4You coaches to Borås, Jönköping and Stockholm. Each sells its own tickets at its own prices.

Because taxi pricing is deregulated, there is no published fare for any of these runs — the number depends entirely on which company you get into. The transfer column is a fixed, pre-agreed price; the taxi column is whatever that operator's tariff produces, which is why the yellow sticker matters.

Sweden is an expensive country for transport, and taxi prices reflect that. The Flygbussarna coach is still comfortably the cheapest way into town.

Flygbussarna runs late services timed to the last arriving flights, typically until around midnight or 1 AM. Check the current schedule on flygbussarna.se — it varies by season.

If you arrive after the last bus, a taxi or pre-booked transfer is your only option. Late-night taxis are available but the queue may be longer if a large flight has just landed. Because Swedish taxi pricing is deregulated, night rates are whatever each company decides — the yellow comparison-price sticker has to show the price for each time of day, so check it rather than assume the night is the same as the day.

The airport terminal is safe and comfortable for waiting. If you have an early morning connection or very late arrival, there is a Landvetter Airport Hotel connected to the terminal.

The Flygbussarna works well for families — there is dedicated luggage space and the bus is comfortable. However, with a stroller, multiple suitcases, and tired children, the transfer from bus to tram at Central Station adds complexity.

A pre-booked transfer takes you directly to your hotel door. This is especially valuable in Gothenburg's winter months (November–March) when weather adds an extra layer of discomfort to outdoor connections.

Swedish law requires child restraints for children under 135 cm tall. Regular taxis may not have child seats available. Pre-book a transfer and request them, or bring your own.

For pre-booked transfers, drivers typically wait in the arrivals hall near the exit doors holding a name board. The terminal is small enough that you will find each other easily.

For taxis, exit the arrivals hall and follow signs to "Taxi." The rank is directly outside, about 20 meters from the door. Dispatchers may be present during busy periods.

For the Flygbussarna, exit the terminal and follow signs to the bus stops. The Flygbussarna stop is clearly marked — you cannot miss it. Buses are yellow and branded.

Choose the Flygbussarna if: you are traveling solo or as a couple, your final destination is near Central Station or on the tram network, and you want the best value.

Choose a taxi if: you want door-to-door service, have moderate luggage, and do not mind the metered fare.

Choose a pre-booked transfer if: you are traveling with family, need child seats, have heavy luggage, arriving late at night, or want a guaranteed fixed price and door-to-door service.

Choose a rental car if: you plan to explore the Swedish west coast or countryside beyond Gothenburg.
