KRK - Krakow

How much does it cost to get from Krakow Airport to the city?

Last updated: April 2026

Krakow is one of the cheaper major city transfers in Europe, and the train is the one leg with a published, checkable fare.

Only the train has a single official number. Taxi fares in Krakow are metered and not set by a single airport tariff, and Uber/Bolt prices move with demand — so for those, the honest answer is to read the meter's rate card or the app quote rather than trust a figure printed in a guide.

The train — still the best deal

Krakow Airport publishes the fare from Kraków Airport to Kraków Główny as 20 PLN, on the SKA1 line operated by Koleje Małopolskie. It is an 18-minute ride to the main station and remains the simplest way into town.

Trains run every 30 minutes from about 4:30 AM to 11:30 PM. Buy tickets from the on-train ticket machine (cash or card), from the conductor, via the Koleje Małopolskie website or app, or from the airport's ticket sales point. Fares are revised periodically — check before you travel.

From Krakow Glowny (main station), you're a 5-minute walk from the Old Town. Most hotels in the Old Town and Kazimierz are within a 15-minute walk.

Uber/Bolt — the smart middle ground

Both ride-share apps are popular in Krakow and are commonly cheaper than official taxis. Both show you the price before you confirm, which is the number that matters — there is no fixed published rate to compare against. Check both apps.

The city bus

Krakow Airport lists city bus lines 209 and 300, plus night line 902. Tickets are time-based: the airport's own price list starts at 4.00 PLN for 15 minutes and 6.00 PLN for 30 minutes, with 24-hour tickets at 20.00 PLN for Strefa I and 25.00 PLN for Strefa I+II+III. The ride into town takes 40-50 minutes, so you need a longer-duration ticket than the 15- or 30-minute ones, and the airport sits outside Strefa I — check both the duration and the zone on the machine. Machines are in the passenger terminal at level 0 (arrivals hall), at the MPK stop, and on board the buses.

Taxi tips

Krakow taxis are metered and the airport taxi stand has official, licensed cabs. Rates are set by the individual taxi companies rather than by one airport tariff, so the rate card in the window is the thing to read before you get in.

Watch out for: Unofficial taxis ("mafia taxis") that approach you inside the terminal. Always use the official rank or a ride-share app. Official taxis have clear markings, a company name, and a visible meter.

Destinations outside Krakow

Wieliczka Salt Mine (25 km), Auschwitz/Oswiecim (75 km), Zakopane (110 km) and Katowice (85 km) are all well beyond the city. None has a published airport fare. For these, agree a fixed price with a transfer company before departure — that is the whole point of pre-booking a long run, and it is more reliable than a meter estimate.

Money-saving tips

  • Don't exchange at the airport. The airport kantor has bad rates. Use an ATM instead.
  • Choose PLN when paying by card. If the terminal asks "pay in PLN or EUR?" — always choose PLN. Choosing EUR means the merchant picks the exchange rate (always worse).
  • The train + walking gets you to most Old Town hotels for the price of one 20 PLN ticket.
  • Bolt is often cheaper than Uber in Krakow — check both apps.

Our recommendation

The train at 20 PLN is the obvious choice for Old Town and Kazimierz. Use Uber/Bolt if you want door-to-door without paying full taxi prices — compare the in-app quote against the train before you decide.
