KRK - Krakow

Getting from Krakow Airport with kids and family

Last updated: March 2026

Krakow is an increasingly popular family destination. The airport is small and manageable, and getting to the Old Town is straightforward. Here's the family guide.

Polish child car seat rules

Poland requires children under 150cm tall to use an appropriate child restraint in vehicles. However:

  • Taxis are exempt from this requirement
  • Uber/Bolt vehicles are also generally exempt
  • Private transfers can provide child seats on request

Best transport for families

Train (works for families)

  • Cost: 9 PLN per adult (~€2), free for under-4s, reduced for 4-12
  • Time: 18 minutes
  • Walk: 5 minutes from terminal to platform via covered walkway with lifts
  • Strollers: Can be brought on board, space available
  • Best for: Families with manageable luggage heading to Old Town area

Pre-booked transfer (recommended for larger families)

  • Cost: 120-200 PLN for sedan, 180-280 PLN for minivan
  • Why: Door-to-door, child seats, luggage help, English-speaking driver
  • Best for: Families with lots of luggage, small children needing car seats

Taxi

  • Cost: 80-100 PLN
  • Good for: Smaller families (2 adults + 1-2 older kids)
  • Limitations: No child seats, limited trunk space

Uber/Bolt

  • Cost: 50-80 PLN
  • Good for: Tech-savvy families, cheaper door-to-door
  • Note: You can't request specific vehicle types for child seats

Airport family facilities

KRK is a smaller airport with basic but adequate family facilities:

  • Baby changing rooms in the arrivals area
  • Pharmacy nearby (inside or just outside terminal)
  • ATM for getting Polish zloty
  • Small cafe/shop for snacks and drinks
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout
  • Luggage carts available

Luggage reality

The train handles luggage reasonably well — there are racks and space. But with a family of 4 plus a stroller plus 3 suitcases, the walk to the train and finding space on board can be stressful.

| Family size | Luggage | Best transport | |---|---|---| | 2 adults + 1 child | 2 bags + stroller | Train or Uber/Bolt | | 2 adults + 2 children | 3 bags + stroller | Uber/Bolt or taxi | | 2 adults + 3+ children | 4+ bags + strollers | Minivan transfer |

Family day trips from Krakow

If you're planning excursions, consider booking airport transfers that connect directly:

| Destination | Good for kids? | Distance | Transfer cost | |---|---|---|---| | Wieliczka Salt Mine | Yes (age 4+) | 25 km | 150-220 PLN | | Zakopane (mountains) | Yes | 110 km | 350-500 PLN | | Auschwitz | Teens only | 75 km | 250-350 PLN | | Ojcow National Park | Yes | 30 km | 160-240 PLN |

Weather note

Krakow has a continental climate:

  • Summer (Jun-Aug): 20-30°C, pleasant
  • Winter (Dec-Feb): -5 to 5°C, cold and sometimes snowy
  • Spring/Autumn: 10-18°C, changeable
Dress kids appropriately — the walk from the airport to transport is short but outdoor. Have jackets accessible in carry-ons during colder months.
