Ibiza Airport: how to reach your hotel or resort

Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is just 7 km southwest of Ibiza Town, which makes it one of the closer airports to a city centre you will find in Spain. Most visitors are headed to Ibiza Town, Playa d'en Bossa, San Antonio, or Santa Eulalia. Taxis are the most flexible option and the only one that runs late at night. Airport buses (the AERO lines) serve Ibiza Town, Platja d'en Bossa, Sant Antoni and Santa Eularia in season. Pre-booked private transfers are the sensible choice for late arrivals, large groups, or anyone who wants a driver waiting with a name sign after a long flight.

Ibiza Airport is a compact, single-terminal building. The process from landing to arrivals hall is fast by European standards. Immigration is not applicable for EU passport holders arriving from EU airports, so those travellers go directly to baggage claim.

Baggage reclaim is small and gets crowded during peak summer months (June-September), when dozens of charter flights land within short windows. Wait times of 30-40 minutes for bags are not uncommon in July and August. The hall itself is not large, so space is tight.

The arrivals exit leads directly to a forecourt with taxis, buses, and a short walk to car rentals. The airport does not have a railway connection.

Free Wi-Fi is available in the terminal. There are ATMs and a currency exchange at arrivals. A small café operates in the arrivals area.

Airport buses (AERO1-AERO5) - The airport bus lines are branded AERO, not the old line numbers you may see in older guides. AERO3 is the express between the airport and Ibiza Town (Isidor Macabich / the port): EUR 3.50 paid by card or QR, EUR 4.90 in cash. AERO5 serves Platja d'en Bossa and Figueretes at the same fare. AERO1 (Sant Antoni, via Sant Josep) and AERO4 (Santa Eularia, Es Canar and Cala Nova) run EUR 4.00 by card or QR and EUR 5.60 cash, and have been available since 1 April 2026 - so, unlike a few years ago, you can now reach San Antonio and Santa Eulalia from the airport without a taxi. Journey time to Ibiza Town is about 20-25 minutes. Buses do not run after midnight and service thins in the shoulder season (April-May, October).

Taxi - Taxis queue outside the arrivals exit. Ibiza taxis are metered, not zoned - the tariff is set by the island authority and the meter must carry it. As published by the airport: EUR 4.00 to start, EUR 1.21 per kilometre by day and EUR 1.47 per kilometre at night, plus a EUR 2.00 airport supplement. Waiting time runs at EUR 21.70 an hour by day and EUR 26.57 at night. The night and holiday tariff applies from 21:00 to 07:00 on weekdays, from 15:00 on Saturdays, and all day on public holidays. On that tariff the 7 km into Ibiza Town works out at roughly EUR 14-15 by day and EUR 16 at night before any waiting time, San Antonio (15 km) at roughly EUR 24 by day, and Santa Eulalia (20 km) at roughly EUR 30 by day. The tariff is revised periodically, so treat the meter as the authority. In peak season and particularly at night after clubs close (5-7 AM), taxis become very scarce. The queue can be very long and waits of 45-60 minutes are reported.

Pre-booked private transfer - A driver meets you in arrivals. The price is fixed at booking. Flight tracking is included so the driver adjusts if your flight is delayed. This is particularly valuable during summer peak season and for late-night arrivals, when taxis cannot be relied upon. Prices are broadly similar to or slightly above the metered taxi fare: typically EUR 20-35 to most Ibiza destinations.

Car rental - The main rental companies operate at the airport. Ibiza roads are manageable, but parking in Ibiza Town and at beach clubs can be expensive and limited in summer. Car rental is popular with visitors staying in villas outside the main resorts.

Bus (AERO3) to Ibiza Town: EUR 3.50 by card or QR, EUR 4.90 cash.

• Airport to Ibiza Town (7 km): EUR 14-15 by day, EUR 16 at night
• Airport to San Antonio (15 km): EUR 24 by day, EUR 28 at night
• Airport to Santa Eulalia (20 km): EUR 30 by day, EUR 35 at night
• Airport to Cala Llonga (18 km): EUR 28 by day

Playa d'en Bossa is the shortest run of all at about 3 km. Traffic and queueing add waiting time on top of every figure above, and the tariff is revised from time to time - the meter is the authority, not this page.

Private transfer prices:

• Sedan to Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa: EUR 20-30
• Sedan to San Antonio or Santa Eulalia: EUR 28-40
• Minivan (up to 7): EUR 40-60

Prices are not dramatically different between taxis and transfers for the main routes. The difference is in availability and certainty, especially at night.

Ibiza has a genuine late-night transport problem. The island's club scene means flights arrive at all hours throughout summer, including after midnight. At the same time, club-goers are also trying to find taxis in the early hours. The result is that taxis can be almost impossible to find between 2-7 AM.

The airport itself has some night flights, and the taxi queue can be long even there at that hour. There are frequent reports of 60-90 minute waits for a taxi at the airport in peak summer.

The bus does not operate after midnight.

For late-night arrivals from June to September, pre-booking a private transfer is the only reliable solution. The driver is there when you clear arrivals regardless of the time.

Ibiza Airport has a manageable scale for families. The walk from arrivals to taxis and buses is short. Trolleys are available in baggage claim.

Taxis in Ibiza are typically standard saloon cars, which fit two adults with two suitcases comfortably. Families of four with more luggage should request a larger vehicle. The taxi rank may have estate cars or MPVs but availability varies.

Child seats are not available in taxis. If you need a child seat, pre-book a transfer and request it at the time of booking. This applies particularly to families with young children.

For families with a lot of luggage or young children, a pre-booked minivan transfer is practical and eliminates the uncertainty of the taxi queue.

Pre-booked transfer drivers wait in the arrivals hall, usually near the exit from baggage claim. They hold a sign with your name. Ibiza arrivals is compact enough that the meeting point is straightforward to find.

For taxis, exit through arrivals and the rank is directly outside on the forecourt. Follow the queue.

For the bus to Ibiza Town, follow signs to the bus stop, which is a short walk from the terminal exit.

Take the bus if: you are going to Ibiza Town, arriving during the day, travelling light, and want to keep costs minimal.

Take a taxi if: you are arriving during the day or early evening in a small group, your destination is nearby, and you are comfortable with the chance of a short queue.

Book a private transfer if: you are arriving late at night or early morning (especially in summer), travelling with children, have a lot of luggage, are in a larger group, or simply want certainty. In peak summer, this advice extends to most evening arrivals.

Rent a car if: you are staying in a villa, planning to explore the island independently, and are not planning heavy nights out in Ibiza Town where parking is a headache.
