Taxi vs private transfer from Ibiza Airport

Last updated: March 2026

For most European holiday airports, taxis are good enough and private transfers are a minor convenience upgrade. Ibiza is different. The island's nightlife creates a genuine transport problem in peak season that makes this comparison more meaningful.

Taxis at Ibiza Airport

Ibiza taxis are regulated and metered with zoned rates. They are generally reliable, honest, and easy to find — during the day. The rank is directly outside the arrivals exit and the queue normally moves within 10-20 minutes for daytime arrivals.

Typical fares: Ibiza Town EUR 15-22, Playa d'en Bossa EUR 12-18, San Antonio EUR 22-32, Santa Eulalia EUR 28-38. Night supplements apply from 10 PM.

The problem is availability in summer, particularly between midnight and 7 AM. The same taxi fleet serving airport arrivals is also trying to move club-goers between venues and back to their hotels. Demand greatly exceeds supply. Queue times of 45-90 minutes at the airport at 3 AM are commonly reported from June to September.

Pre-booked private transfers

A driver meets you in the arrivals hall. The price is fixed at booking with no supplements for night, Sunday, or public holidays. The driver tracks your flight and waits if it is delayed.

Prices: sedan to Ibiza Town EUR 20-30, to San Antonio EUR 28-38, to Santa Eulalia EUR 32-45. Minivans available for larger groups.

The key advantage is certainty. The driver is there. You do not queue. This matters especially in summer when the taxi situation is genuinely unreliable at night.

Comparison

| Factor | Taxi | Private transfer | |---|---|---| | Cost to Ibiza Town | EUR 15-22 | EUR 20-30 | | Cost to San Antonio | EUR 22-32 | EUR 28-38 | | Daytime queue | 5-15 min | None | | Night queue (summer) | Up to 90 min | None | | Night supplement | Yes (from 10 PM) | Included in price | | Child seat | No | On request | | Flight tracking | No | Yes | | Meeting point | Outside at rank | Inside arrivals | | Reliability at 3 AM | Poor (June-Sep) | Reliable |

When each option wins

Taxi: Arriving during the day or early evening in the shoulder season (April-May, October). Short wait, honest meter, perfectly adequate.

Private transfer: Arriving late at night or early morning from June to September. Travelling with young children who need a car seat. In a group of three or more where the price difference is negligible per person. Want a driver inside the building rather than hunting for the taxi rank.

The edge case: If you are arriving at 11 PM in July and your flight is already running 30 minutes late, you are looking at landing around midnight and joining a taxi queue that will only get longer as the night progresses. Pre-booking a transfer in that scenario is a clear decision.

A note on pricing

The price difference between a taxi and a transfer in Ibiza is not large. On the San Antonio route, you might pay EUR 25 in a taxi versus EUR 33 for a transfer. For a group of two that is EUR 4 per person. Given the availability issue in summer, that difference in money is minimal compared to the difference in experience.
