How Fiji taxi fares are set
Taxi fares in Fiji are regulated by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), not left to the driver. The meter charges a flagfall per hire, a drop charge per 100 metres, and a waiting charge per minute.
The important detail for arriving passengers: Nadi International Airport taxis run on their own rate, separate from taxis elsewhere in Fiji. The FCCC reviews these rates, and the most recent adjustment took effect on 1 July 2026, raising the drop charge for Nadi Airport taxis.
Because that revision is recent and we were unable to confirm the current figures from the FCCC directly, we do not publish the flagfall or drop charge here. Printing a stale rate would be worse than printing none: it would look freshly checked. Check fccc.gov.fj for the rates in force, or simply read the meter — it is regulated, and the driver must use it.

Which option suits which trip
Nadi town and Denarau: short, metered runs. A taxi at the rank is perfectly fine, and the meter is regulated. Check first whether your Denarau resort includes transfers — many do.
Coral Coast, Pacific Harbour, Suva: these are long drives along Queens Road. A taxi will make the trip but the meter runs the entire way, so agree the basis before you set off. A pre-booked transfer is quoted per vehicle before you travel, which is the practical choice at these distances.
Suva specifically: most travellers fly domestically (about 30 minutes) or take the express bus (about 4-5 hours) rather than drive. Check the airline or bus operator for current fares. A private transfer only makes sense for groups or those with significant luggage.
What affects the price
Distance: This is the primary factor. Fiji's main island (Viti Levu) is not small, and longer coastal drives add up.
Vehicle type: Standard sedans handle most trips. Larger vehicles for families, groups, or excessive luggage cost more — the transfer quote will reflect the vehicle you choose.
Time of day: Pre-booked transfer prices are fixed when you book. For taxis, the FCCC sets the rate structure, so check fccc.gov.fj if you want to know whether any time-of-day variation applies to your journey.
Resort packages: Check whether your accommodation includes transfers before booking separately. Many Denarau and Coral Coast resorts bundle airport transfers with the room rate.
Currency and payment
Taxis take cash in Fijian Dollars. ATMs are available at the airport. Pre-booked transfers usually accept online card payment. Resort transfers are charged to your room.
Bottom line
Always check your resort's transfer options first — it is often the best deal and the simplest arrangement. For short hops to Nadi town or Denarau, the regulated meter does the work. For the Coral Coast and beyond, get a transfer quote for your dates and have the price fixed before you fly.
