NAN - Nadi

Arriving at Nadi Airport Late at Night

Many international flights land at Nadi in the late evening or early morning. Connections from Australia, New Zealand, and the US West Coast often arrive between 9 PM and 2 AM. The airport is prepared for this, but your transport options narrow after dark.

What to expect at the airport

Nadi Airport stays operational for scheduled international arrivals regardless of the hour. Immigration and customs are staffed for all incoming flights. Processing times after midnight can actually be faster than daytime due to fewer simultaneous arrivals.

The arrivals area has limited facilities at night. Currency exchange windows may be closed, but ATMs are available. The Vodafone booth may or may not be open — do not count on getting a SIM card at 1 AM. Have your transfer details, hotel address, and driver contact information saved offline.

Taxis at night

Licensed taxis operate at the airport for incoming international flights, even late ones. The rank outside arrivals is manned when flights are expected. Fares are metered and consistent with daytime rates — there is no formal night surcharge in Fiji.

For short trips to Nadi town (15-25 FJD) or Denarau Island (35-50 FJD), a taxi at night is straightforward. The roads are quiet, the drive is quick, and the route is well-known to every driver.

For longer trips to the Coral Coast or beyond, a taxi at midnight is less ideal. The drive takes 1-2 hours on dark, winding coastal roads. If this is your plan, a pre-booked transfer with a rested, familiar driver is the better choice.

Resort transfers at night

Most resorts that offer airport transfers run them for all scheduled arrival times, including late-night flights. Confirm with your resort before traveling that they will have someone waiting regardless of delays. Resort drivers are familiar with the late-flight routine and will track your arrival.

If your resort is on Denarau Island, the transfer is short enough that arriving at midnight is no inconvenience. For Coral Coast resorts, a late-night arrival means a longer drive — some properties may suggest spending the first night near Nadi and transferring the next morning.

Pre-booked transfers at night

A private transfer booked in advance is the most reliable option for late arrivals. The driver monitors your flight, waits for you in arrivals, and drives you directly to your accommodation. Prices do not typically change for nighttime arrivals.

This is particularly valuable if you are heading to a destination beyond Denarau — having a confirmed driver eliminates the stress of negotiating a long trip at 1 AM.

Safety

Fiji is generally safe, and the airport area is secure. Taking a licensed taxi or pre-booked transfer at night is not a safety concern. The main risk is practical — arriving exhausted, dealing with luggage, and navigating an unfamiliar destination in the dark. Minimizing decisions by arranging transport beforehand helps.

Connecting to the outer islands

If you are heading to the Mamanuca or Yasawa islands, boats depart from Port Denarau Marina in the morning. A late-night arrival means you will need accommodation near Nadi or Denarau for the night and a transfer to the marina the next day. Plan for this layover rather than trying to reach the islands immediately.

Bottom line

Late-night arrivals at Nadi are common and manageable. Taxis and resort transfers are available for scheduled flights. Pre-book if you are heading beyond Denarau, and accept that an island connection will wait until morning. Fiji runs on its own time, and so should you.
