The airport bus
The Sagales bus (line 607) connects the airport to Girona bus and train station and is easily the cheapest option — a few euros. Sagales does not publish the line 607 fare on its airport pages, so check the price on the ticket machine at the bus park or with the driver; heading to the airport it is cash-only on board. Buses are timed to flight arrivals and departures, so there is usually one waiting when you land. The ride takes about 25 minutes.
The main drawback is luggage space during peak season. Summer flights from Northern Europe fill these buses quickly. If you have more than one large bag, you may find it uncomfortable.
Taxis
Taxis wait in a rank outside arrivals. The ride is metered on the council's regulated scale: The city council publishes the scale: EUR 0.80 per km on weekdays between 08:00 and 20:00, and EUR 0.87 per km from 20:00 to 08:00, on Saturdays and on public holidays, with a EUR 4.50 airport entry/exit supplement and another EUR 4.50 if there are more than four passengers. Interurban runs are charged on the round-trip distance, because the driver comes back empty. The council's own published price for the 16 km into Girona is EUR 30.10 on weekdays between 08:00 and 20:00, and EUR 32.34 from 20:00 to 08:00, on Saturdays and holidays — so the night difference is about two euros, not 20%. There is no extra charge for standard luggage.
Taxis are plentiful for daytime flights but can run short after late evening arrivals when several low-cost flights land close together.
Private transfers
A pre-booked private transfer typically costs EUR 30-45 for a sedan carrying up to 3-4 passengers. The driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign. This option is useful when you want a guaranteed ride, especially for late flights or when travelling with children who need car seats.
To Barcelona instead?
If your destination is Barcelona, the costs change significantly. The airport bus direct to Barcelona Nord is EUR 22, and Sagales sells a two-journey Barcelona-airport ticket for EUR 35. A private transfer runs EUR 130-170. Many travellers take the line 607 bus to Girona station and then the AVE high-speed train to Barcelona Sants, which can be faster than driving — check Renfe for the fare on your date, as it depends on how early you book.
Bottom line
For Girona city, the line 607 bus is hard to beat if you travel light. A taxi at the council's EUR 30.10 (EUR 32.34 nights, weekends and holidays) is reasonable for comfort. Pre-book a transfer if you arrive late or need a child seat.
