Girona Airport is not a 24-hour facility. The terminal closes after the last flight of the day, typically between 23:00 and midnight. If your Ryanair flight is delayed into the late hours, you need a plan.
What happens after the last flight
Once the final passengers clear the building, the terminal shuts down. There is no overnight lounge, no sleeping area, and no airside access. The cafe closes, the shops close, and the lights go off. You cannot stay in the building overnight.

The real risk
GRO handles relatively few flights per day. When the last two or three flights land close together, the small taxi rank gets overwhelmed. Drivers who were waiting leave with fares, and replacements may take 20-30 minutes to arrive or may not come at all.
The airport bus typically makes its final run tied to the last scheduled arrival. But if your flight is delayed by an hour or more, the bus may already be gone.
Pre-booking is the answer
For any flight arriving after 21:00, a pre-booked transfer removes the uncertainty. The driver monitors your flight and adjusts for delays. You walk out, find the driver, and leave. The cost for Girona city is around EUR 35-50, slightly higher than daytime rates.
For Barcelona at night, expect EUR 140-180 for a private transfer. The drive is actually faster with less traffic, often under 70 minutes.
Nearest hotels if you are stuck
If things go wrong and you need to stay near the airport, Vilobi d'Onyar is the nearest village, about 3 km away, with a couple of small hotels. Girona city is 13 km away with many options in all price ranges. Without a taxi or transfer, reaching even Vilobi on foot at night along unlit roads is not advisable.
