Late night arrivals at Montpellier Airport — your real options

Last updated: March 2026

Montpellier Airport is small, and late-night transport options are limited. If your flight arrives after 10 PM, plan ahead.

What's available after midnight

| Option | Available? | Cost | Notes | |---|---|---|---| | Shuttle bus | No — last bus ~11 PM | N/A | First bus ~6:30 AM | | Taxi | Maybe | 30-40 € | Limited availability at night | | Uber/Bolt | Unreliable | 25-35 € | Few drivers at MPL late | | Pre-booked transfer | Yes | €25-35 | Best late-night option |

The problem with late nights at MPL

Montpellier is a university city with good nightlife, but the airport is 8 km outside the center in a fairly quiet area. After 11 PM:

  • Shuttle bus stops running — last service is around 11:00 PM
  • Tram doesn't reach the airport anyway
  • Taxis at the rank may or may not be there. MPL doesn't have a huge taxi fleet, and late-night airport coverage is thin
  • Uber/Bolt drivers are scarce in Montpellier at the best of times; at midnight near the airport, don't count on it

Pre-book or risk waiting

This is an airport where pre-booking is genuinely important for late arrivals. Unlike big-city airports with 24/7 taxi fleets, MPL's small size means you could exit at midnight and find nobody waiting.

A pre-booked transfer costs the same as a daytime taxi (€25-35) and guarantees someone is there. The driver monitors your flight and adjusts for delays.

What if you didn't pre-book?

1. Check the taxi rank — you might get lucky, especially if other passengers on your flight need taxis too 2. Call a taxi company: Taxis Montpellier (+33 4 67 03 88 88) or other local companies. Wait time: 10-30 minutes. 3. Try Uber and Bolt apps — check both, go with whoever has a driver 4. Ask at the airport information desk — staff can call a taxi for you 5. If nothing works: There's a Courtyard by Marriott very close to the airport. Book a room, sleep, take the first shuttle in the morning.

The bright side of late arrivals

The 8 km drive takes just 10 minutes at night with empty roads. No traffic, no delays. If you do find a taxi or have a transfer waiting, you'll be at your hotel in no time. The night taxi tariff adds maybe 5-8 € over daytime rates — not a major difference for such a short distance.

Safety

The airport area is safe but quiet and poorly lit once you leave the terminal vicinity. Stay in the terminal until your transport arrives. Don't walk along the road to town — there's no pedestrian path and it's dark.
