Getting from Lome Airport to the City with Kids and Family

Last updated: March 2026

Lome-Tokoin Airport is small and manageable, which is good news for families. The bad news is that family-friendly ground transport is not something you can count on without planning ahead.

The main challenge: vehicle size and child seats

Most taxis at the airport are compact sedans. If you have a stroller, car seat, and multiple suitcases, fitting everything into one taxi may not work. Child car seats are not available in local taxis — drivers simply do not carry them.

A pre-booked transfer solves both problems. You can request a minivan or SUV, and most transfer providers can supply a child seat or booster if you ask at the time of booking.

Inside the terminal

The terminal is basic. There is no dedicated family lane at immigration, no play area, and limited seating in the arrivals hall. Baby changing facilities are minimal. The best strategy is to move through the terminal quickly and get into your vehicle.

Practical tips for families at LFW

  • Book a transfer with a larger vehicle if you have more than two bags plus a stroller.
  • Request a child seat in advance — these are not standard equipment.
  • Bring snacks and water for the kids. There is a small shop in arrivals but selection is limited.
  • The drive to central Lome is only 15–25 minutes, so even restless children will manage.
  • If your hotel offers a shuttle, confirm the vehicle size and whether child seats are included.
