FNI - Nîmes

Arriving at Nîmes Airport with kids — what families need to know

FNI is one of the easier airports to navigate with children. It is small, uncrowded, and you will be through the terminal and outside within minutes of landing. The bigger question is what happens next.

The terminal experience

The terminal at Nîmes is compact and low-stress. There is one arrivals area, one baggage belt (or sometimes bags are delivered to a small claim area), and a short walk to the exit. No long corridors, no confusing signage, no shuttle trains between terminals. Kids will not get bored or lost here — there is simply not enough space for that.

Restroom facilities are basic. There is no dedicated family or baby-changing room, though the restrooms are clean enough. If you need to change a baby, do it before leaving the terminal.

Car seats — the important part

French law requires children under 10 or shorter than 135 cm to be in an appropriate child restraint system. Taxis in France are technically exempt from this rule, but private transfer vehicles are not. If you want your child properly secured — and you should — here are your options:

  • Bring your own: A lightweight travel car seat is the most reliable option. You control the quality and know it fits your child.
  • Request one with your transfer: Most private transfer providers can supply a car seat if you ask at the time of booking. Specify the child's age and weight so they provide the right type. Confirm this is included — some charge a small fee.
  • Taxi: Drivers rarely carry car seats. If you take a taxi, you are likely traveling without one.

Shuttle bus with kids

The shuttle bus to Nîmes center can accommodate families, but space is limited. Strollers need to be folded and stored. There are no seatbelts or child restraints on the bus. For a short, 25-minute ride into town, many families find this acceptable, but it is something to consider.

Which transport option works best for families

A pre-booked transfer with a requested car seat and enough space for luggage and a stroller is the most comfortable option for families. You know the vehicle size in advance, the car seat is arranged, and you do not have to manage logistics while wrangling tired children outside an unfamiliar airport.

If you are renting a car (common for families exploring the region), most rental companies at FNI offer child seats as an add-on. Book it with the car — do not assume it will be available on the day.

Heading to popular family destinations

Families flying into FNI are often heading to:

  • Nîmes city (20 min): The arena, Jardins de la Fontaine, and the old town are all manageable with kids.
  • Pont du Gard (25 min): The Roman aqueduct is a great family outing.
  • The Camargue (45-60 min): Flamingos, horses, beaches — kids love it, but it is a longer drive.
  • Uzès (30 min): A charming town with a Saturday market.
For anything beyond Nîmes center, a rental car or pre-booked transfer is the practical choice. The shuttle only goes to Nîmes station.
