Getting from Milan Bergamo Airport to your destination

Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport (BGY) is marketed as a Milan airport, but it's actually 50 km from Milan city center and only 5 km from Bergamo. To Bergamo: a bus costs 2.50 € (15 min) or a taxi about 15-20 €. To Milan: the airport bus costs 7-10 € (50-70 min to Milano Centrale), a taxi runs 100-130 €, and a pre-booked transfer is €80-120. If you're actually going to Milan, factor in the distance — this is not a quick transfer.

BGY is a budget airline hub (Ryanair's main Milan base). The airport has one terminal — modern enough but basic. After landing, baggage claim is quick, and you exit into the arrivals hall. Bus ticket counters and automatic machines are in the arrivals area. The bus stops are right outside the exit.

Taxis wait outside but are limited — this is a smaller airport. Free WiFi is available. ATMs are in the arrivals hall.

Airport bus to Bergamo: Bus to Bergamo train station costs about 2.50 € and takes 15 minutes. Runs frequently. From Bergamo station, you can take a train to Milan (about 50 minutes, ~6 €).

Taxi to Bergamo: About 15-20 €, 10-15 minutes. Easy and affordable.

Note: The bus to Milan at 7-10 € makes taxis/transfers hard to justify for individual travelers heading to Milan.

Airport buses to Milan run until about 12:30-1:00 AM, with the last bus matching the last scheduled flight. After that, options are limited: pre-booked transfers or trying to find a taxi (not guaranteed). For Bergamo, local buses run later but not all night. If your Ryanair flight is delayed past midnight, a pre-booked transfer is your safety net.

The airport bus to Milan is fine for families — comfortable coaches with luggage storage. But 50-70 minutes on a bus after a flight with young kids isn't ideal. For families heading to Milan, weigh the bus cost for the whole family (7-10 € each) vs a transfer (€80-120 total). For a family of 4, the bus is about 30-40 € vs 80-120 € for a transfer. The convenience gap is real though. Italian taxis don't carry child seats — request one with a transfer.
