Ryanair flights to Bergamo are notorious for late-evening arrivals. Landing at 10 PM, 11 PM, or even midnight is normal. Here's what works.
What's available after midnight
| Option | Available? | Cost to Milan | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airport coach to Milan | Until ~1:00 AM | 8 € (Terravision) | Last departure matches last flights |
| ATB bus to Bergamo | Until ~midnight | 3.00 € | Check exact schedule |
| Taxi to Milan | Very limited | Agreed with the driver | May not be available at all |
| Taxi to Bergamo | Limited | Metered; only 5 km | More likely available |
| Pre-booked transfer | Yes | Fixed when you book | Most reliable option |

The bus situation at night
The good news: airport bus companies schedule late services to match Ryanair's evening flights. If the last flight lands at 11:30 PM, there's usually a bus to Milan departing around midnight or 12:30 AM.
However:
- If your flight is delayed, the bus won't wait
- The last bus is the LAST bus — miss it and there's nothing until 4-5 AM
- Buses can fill up when multiple delayed flights land simultaneously
Pro tip: If you see a bus at the stop and you're going to Milan, get on it. Don't wait for the "next one" — there might not be one.
Taxi reality at night
BGY's taxi fleet is small. At midnight:
- To Bergamo (5 km): Usually possible, 1-3 taxis at the rank, and a short metered ride
- To Milan (50 km): Much harder. Few drivers want a 100 km round trip at midnight, and the fare is negotiated rather than metered at that distance. You might wait 20-30 minutes or not find one at all.
The transfer advantage at night
This is where pre-booked transfers earn their keep at BGY. The airport bus is great when it's running, but for flights arriving after 11 PM:
1. Your transfer driver monitors your flight — no risk of missing the last bus 2. If you're delayed 2 hours, they adjust 3. Fixed price, agreed when you booked rather than at 1 AM 4. For Milan trips, you're paying for certainty that you'll actually get there tonight
What if you missed the last bus and have no booking?
1. Check for taxis at the rank. Try for Milan, but be prepared to hear "no." 2. For Milan: Call a taxi company or try ride-hailing apps (limited in Italy) 3. For Bergamo: More likely to find a taxi. Take it to Bergamo, stay overnight, train to Milan in the morning. 4. Airport hotels: The NH Orio al Serio is right at the airport, and you can take the early morning coach to Milan. Sometimes the pragmatic choice — check the rate directly with the hotel. 5. Bergamo hotels: Taxis to Bergamo are more available, and Bergamo rooms generally cost less than Milan ones.
The Ryanair delay problem
Let's be honest: Ryanair's evening flights from BGY are frequently delayed. A scheduled 9 PM arrival can easily become 11 PM or later. If you booked the "last bus" based on the scheduled arrival, you might miss it. Build buffer into your plans, or book a transfer that adapts to delays.
Our recommendation
- Flight landing before 10:30 PM: Airport bus is fine. Usually plenty of buses.
- Flight landing 10:30 PM - midnight: Bus might work, but have a backup plan.
- Flight landing after midnight: Pre-booked transfer. Don't gamble.
- Any delayed Ryanair evening flight: If you don't have a transfer booked, prepare for the possibility of staying near the airport overnight.
