How Much Does It Cost to Get from Karachi Airport to the City?

Last updated: April 2026

Jinnah International Airport is about 15 km from central Karachi, but the cost of getting there depends as much on traffic as on distance. Karachi is a massive city and congestion is a daily reality.

Why there is no price table here

Karachi's taxis have no meters and there is no published airport tariff. Ride-hailing fares move with demand, minute to minute. Any fixed rupee figure in a travel guide is someone's guess, and the published guesses for this route disagree with each other by several times over. We would rather show you what actually drives the price and how to get a real quote in thirty seconds on your phone.

What drives the price

Traffic is the biggest factor — bigger than distance. During rush hours (8–11 AM, 5–9 PM), Careem and inDrive use dynamic pricing, and the same route to Clifton that takes 20–25 minutes at midnight can take 60–90 minutes at 6 PM. You pay for both the surge and the extra time.

How the price is set varies completely by option, and this is the part worth understanding:

MethodHow the price is setProsCons
inDriveYou bid; drivers accept or counterUsually the cheapestBidding takes time; variable quality
CareemQuoted in-app before you acceptReliable, tracked, card paymentSurges during rush hour
Yellow cabNegotiated at the kerbAlways availableMust negotiate; no tracking
Private transferFixed per vehicle at bookingPrice known before you fly; no traffic riskBooked in advance

Yellow and white cabs are negotiated, and drivers at the airport routinely open well above what they will accept. There are also official taxi counters on the landside where a dispatcher quotes a price — if it does not suit, move to the next counter. Either way, agree the fare before you get in.

The trick that works

Open Careem or inDrive as soon as you have data. The app quotes the fare before you accept it. That number is useful even if you never take the ride — it is the only live, destination-specific benchmark you will have, and it tells you instantly whether a cab driver's quote is reasonable.

Cash vs card

Careem accepts card payments through the app. inDrive and regular taxis are almost always cash only. Have some rupees on you when you land. ATMs in the arrivals hall work with Visa and Mastercard, and there are exchange counters in the terminal.
