Getting from Karachi Airport to the City with Kids and Family

Last updated: March 2026

Traveling through Jinnah International Airport with children requires some extra planning. The airport itself is manageable, but ground transportation options for families are limited compared to more developed markets.

Inside the terminal

The international terminal has basic facilities. Restrooms are available but baby changing stations are limited. Luggage trolleys can be found near the carousels, though they may require a small deposit. The arrivals hall has a pharmacy and convenience shops for essentials.

Immigration queues can be long. If traveling with small children, be patient and allow extra time. There is no dedicated family lane.

Transport options for families

| Option | Luggage space | Car seat | Cost to Clifton (PKR) | EUR | |--------|--------------|---------|----------------------|-----| | Careem Go | 2–3 bags | No | 2,000–3,000 | 7–10 | | Careem Go+ | 3–4 bags | No | 2,800–4,000 | 9–13 | | Yellow cab | 2–3 bags | No | 2,000–4,000 | 7–13 | | Private transfer sedan | 3 bags | On request | 4,500–6,500 | 15–21 | | Private transfer minivan | 6–8 bags | On request | 6,500–9,000 | 21–30 |

The car seat problem

This is where Karachi differs from most international cities. No regular taxi, Careem, or inDriver vehicle comes with a child car seat. Pakistan does not have strong enforcement of child restraint laws, so the market simply does not provide them.

Your options are:

1. Bring your own car seat from home and install it in the vehicle 2. Book a private transfer with a car seat arranged at the time of booking (the most reliable option) 3. Hold your child on your lap in the back seat (common local practice but not recommended for safety)

A private transfer with a pre-installed car seat is the clear winner for families with young children. The driver meets you at arrivals, handles the luggage, and the vehicle is ready to go.

Managing luggage with kids

Families traveling with strollers, car seats, and multiple suitcases should book a larger vehicle. A standard Careem sedan will not fit a family of four with full luggage. Order Careem Go+ for more space, or book a private minivan transfer.

Strollers checked at the gate are returned at the baggage carousel. Oversized items may appear at a separate collection point.

Karachi traffic with kids

Karachi traffic is aggressive and stop-start. Long rides during rush hour are tiring for children. If possible, time your arrival outside the 8–11 AM and 5–9 PM rush windows. A late-evening arrival actually means a smoother, faster ride.
