Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) – Getting to Lahore City

Allama Iqbal International Airport is about 15 km from central Lahore. The drive takes 25–45 minutes depending on traffic. Your best options are Careem or inDriver (app-based rides, PKR 500–1,000 / EUR 1.50–3), a taxi from the airport stand (PKR 1,500–3,000 / EUR 4.50–9), or a pre-booked private transfer (EUR 15–30). There is no rail or metro connection from the airport.

Lahore's international terminal handles a high volume of flights, particularly from the Middle East. Immigration can be slow — expect 30–60 minutes during peak arrival times. Baggage claim is straightforward but trolleys can be scarce.

Once you exit the arrivals hall, you enter a busy pickup area. Taxi touts will approach you immediately, offering rides at inflated prices. Porters may grab your bags without asking — if you do not want help, say so clearly. The scene can feel chaotic if you are not expecting it, but it is normal for Lahore.

If you have a pre-booked transfer, your driver will be waiting in the arrivals area with a name sign. For ride-hailing apps, walk past the crowd to the designated pickup zone.

Prices fluctuate with traffic and time of day. During Friday prayers and evening rush hour (5–8 PM), both prices and journey times increase.

Many international flights arrive in Lahore between midnight and 4 AM, especially from Dubai, Jeddah, and Doha. Careem works at night but wait times can be 10–20 minutes as fewer drivers are available. Airport taxis are always present for late flights. A pre-booked transfer is the most comfortable late-night option — your driver tracks the flight and is waiting regardless of the hour.

Pakistani families often travel with substantial luggage, so drivers and vehicles are generally prepared for heavy loads. However, standard Careem vehicles are compact sedans — a family of four with large suitcases may not fit comfortably.
