Dortmund Airport: Taxi or Pre-booked Transfer

Both options take you to your accommodation. The difference is how much you know before you travel.

The taxi

The taxi rank is at the arrivals level (Ankunftsebene), next to the east exit. The airport's taxi page publishes sample fares, marked "ca." (approximate), "Stand Februar 2024" (as of February 2024) and "ohne Gewähr" (no guarantee). We selected these:

• about 11 EUR: Holzwickede
• about 21 EUR: Unna
• about 35 EUR: Dortmund Hbf (main station)
• about 71 EUR: Bochum
• about 105 EUR: Essen
• about 165 EUR: Düsseldorf Airport

Between 22:00 and 06:00, and on Sundays and public holidays, the fare rises by about 10% for trips within Dortmund, to Unna and to Holzwickede. Because the figures are from February 2024 and carry no guarantee, confirm the fare with the driver before you set off.

Pre-booked private transfer

A pre-booked transfer is arranged before you fly, and the price is confirmed at booking. The live price to Essen is from EUR 119. The live price to Gelsenkirchen is from EUR 114. Use the quote tool on this page for other destinations, because the price depends on the route and the vehicle. Check your booking confirmation for the meeting point and for how flight delays are handled. If meet-and-greet is included in your booking, the driver meets you as stated there.

How to choose

Choose the taxi if: you want to leave straight away and are going to a nearby place such as Holzwickede, Unna or Dortmund Hbf, where the sample fares are low.

Choose a pre-booked transfer if: you want the arrangement settled before you fly, you arrive late, you travel with children or many bags, you are a group, or you are going further, for example to Essen or Gelsenkirchen. Request a child seat at booking and give the child's age and weight, because no official statement on child seats in taxis was found.

The buses

The airport express bus (to Dortmund Hauptbahnhof) and the airport shuttle bus (to Bahnhof Holzwickede) are not part of the VRR tariff, so you need a separate ticket. The airport page publishes no fares for them, so we give none.
