Arriving late at night at Catania Airport

Catania Airport handles late-night arrivals on seasonal and scheduled routes. The airport's small size means late-night logistics are simpler than major hubs, but transport options after midnight are limited.

The terminal after hours

Fontanarossa Airport operates around the clock. Immigration and baggage claim work at any hour. Late-night arrivals clear quickly — the terminal is quiet. ATMs are available in the arrivals area. Food and coffee options are minimal after midnight.

What stops running

The AMT Alibus stops in the late evening, and regional Interbus services to Taormina and Syracuse finish earlier still. After midnight, public transport from the airport is essentially unavailable. Check the current last departures on amts.ct.it and interbus.it against your own landing time.

What keeps running

Taxis are at the rank 24 hours. Catania's tariff is set by the comune and carries a night supplement on top of the fare; the comune revised its taxi tariffs during 2026, so check the current published rates rather than a figure from a guide. Supply is thinner late at night, but the airport is close enough to the city that drivers are available.

Pre-booked transfers operate at any hour. For late-night arrivals, particularly to Taormina or other regional destinations, a pre-booked transfer is the only reliable option.

Regional destinations at night

If you are heading to Taormina, Syracuse, or Noto on a late-night arrival, do not expect to arrange transport at the airport. Options:

• Taormina (55 km): No Interbus at night. A pre-booked transfer is the right choice — the price is fixed when you book, night or not. A taxi from the rank for Taormina at 1 AM is possible but expensive, unregulated outside the city area, and may not be available immediately.

• Syracuse (65 km): Same situation. Pre-booked transfer or consider a Catania hotel overnight and onward by day.

• Budget alternative for late nights: Take a taxi to Catania's Stazione Centrale area, stay the night in a Catania hotel, and take the regional bus or train to your final destination the next morning.

Late-night scenarios

Landing at 11 PM: Last Alibus may have run. Taxi to the city centre on the comune's tariff plus night supplement, or a pre-booked transfer.

Landing at 1 AM, heading to Catania: Taxi from the rank. Quick and straightforward — it is only 5 km.

Landing at 1 AM, heading to Taormina: Pre-booked transfer is essential. Book before you fly.

Landing at 5 AM: Taxi available, first Alibus resumes around 6-7 AM. Regional buses start morning services.

Safety

Catania Airport is safe at night. The taxi rank operates as normal. Catania city has areas that are rougher at night (near the train station), but the airport transfer itself is not an issue. Use the official white taxi rank; do not accept approaches from unofficial drivers.
