The tram covers most late arrivals
The T2 tram's last departure from the airport is around 23:58 from Sunday to Thursday, stretching to about 01:15 on Friday and Saturday nights. That covers most flights that land at FLR — but it is not the blanket guarantee it sounds like. If you arrive at 22:30 on a Tuesday and baggage is slow, you have perhaps an hour of slack; if anything goes wrong, you are in a taxi. Check GEST's current timetable against your flight.
The tram runs less frequently after 21:00 — roughly every 12–15 minutes instead of every 5–8 — so check the posted schedule at the stop.
Night taxi rates
The official fixed fare from FLR to Florence center increases at night and on Sundays and public holidays. The Comune di Firenze sets three versions of the fixed airport fare: EUR 28.00 on a normal weekday, EUR 30.00 on Sundays and public holidays, and EUR 32.00 at night (22:00–06:00), plus EUR 1.10 per item of luggage. So the night uplift is real but modest — EUR 4 over the weekday fare.
Taxis are available at the rank outside arrivals for all scheduled flights. For the last flights of the evening, there are usually enough taxis, but the queue may be smaller.
When a pre-booked transfer helps
If your flight is one of the last of the day and you want zero uncertainty, a pre-booked transfer guarantees a driver is waiting. This matters most when:
- Your flight is delayed and might land after the last tram
- You are heading to a hotel deep in the ZTL where finding the entrance at night is tricky
- You are going to a Tuscan destination outside Florence (Chianti, Siena) — you do not want to figure out rural roads in the dark
The airport at night
FLR is a small airport that empties quickly after the last flights. There are no overnight sleeping facilities. If your flight is delayed significantly, food and drink options will be very limited. The terminal is safe and has seating, but it is not designed for extended stays.
