Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport is only 5 km from the city center, making it one of the cheapest airport-to-city transfers in Italy.

The taxi figures are the Comune di Firenze's fixed airport fare for hotels and private addresses in the central area, charged per vehicle, plus EUR 1.10 per item of luggage. Outside that area the meter applies instead.

The EUR 1.70 tram — is it really that good?

Yes. The T2 tram from Florence Airport to the city center is one of the best airport transport deals in Europe. For EUR 1.70 you get a modern, air-conditioned tram that runs every 4–8 minutes and reaches the Santa Maria Novella area in about 20 minutes. The only downside is managing heavy luggage during peak hours.

Costs to Tuscan destinations

Many visitors use FLR as a gateway to wider Tuscany:

Only the Florence-centre row has a published price. Everywhere else in Tuscany sits outside the fixed-fare area, so a taxi runs on the meter for the entire journey and nobody — including us — can tell you in advance what it will read. That is precisely why, for Tuscan destinations beyond Florence, a pre-booked transfer is worth getting: not because it is automatically cheaper, but because it is a known number before you commit to a 60–110 km drive.

Extra charges to know about

  • Night, Sunday and holiday rates on taxis: the fixed airport fare is EUR 28.00 on a normal weekday, EUR 30.00 on Sundays and public holidays, and EUR 32.00 at night (22:00–06:00)
  • Luggage: EUR 1.10 per item on top of the fixed fare, with supplements capped at EUR 13.20 in total
  • ZTL access: taxis and authorized transfers can enter; this is included in the fare
  • Tram ticket validation: you must validate your tram ticket on board. Riding without a validated ticket risks a EUR 50+ fine
