How much does it cost to get from Dushanbe Airport to the city?

The distance from Dushanbe International Airport to central Dushanbe is about 10 km. It is a short ride, but pricing is not straightforward because there are no metered taxis.

There is no meter and no published tariff — neither the city nor the airport sets one — so the fare is entirely negotiated before you get in. Some upscale hotels include airport pickup in the room rate or offer it for a fee. Always confirm the price when booking.

Cost-saving tips

• Withdraw somoni from the ATM inside the terminal if your card works — paying in local currency gives you a better rate than paying in USD.
• If you are travelling with someone and both heading to the centre, share a taxi. Drivers do not charge per person.
• Avoid exchanging money with unofficial currency changers outside the terminal. Use the exchange counter inside.

Longer trips

If your destination is outside Dushanbe — for example, Varzob Valley (30 km) or Nurek (100 km) — negotiate separately and settle the figure before you set off. Longer journeys to cities like Khujand require a hired car and are a different category of expense entirely.
