The one fare that is actually published
The airport train is now the Commuter Line Basoetta, run by KAI Commuter (PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia) — it took the line over from Railink, so older guides still calling it "Railink" are out of date. KAI Commuter publishes the fare: Rp 70,000 from the airport to Duri, BNI City (Sudirman Baru) or Manggarai, and Rp 35,000 to Batu Ceper or Rawa Buaya. There are 62 trips a day. Buy through the Access by KAI app, reservation.kci.id, the station vending machines (QRIS, debit or credit card) or with a KMT card.

That price is fixed. It is identical in the middle of Monday rush hour and at midnight, which in Jakarta is worth more than it sounds.
Why we don't print a taxi price
Jakarta taxi fares, Grab and Gojek prices, DAMRI fares and toll charges are not published anywhere we can verify against an operator or an authority. On top of that, a metered fare in Jakarta charges for time as well as distance — so the same journey genuinely costs meaningfully more in traffic than it does on an empty road. A printed range would be a guess wearing a suit.
What to do instead:
- Blue Bird: metered and trustworthy. Join the official rank and watch the meter.
- Grab / Gojek: the app quotes you before you accept. This is the fastest way to get a real number for your real trip — do it while you are still in arrivals.
- Pre-booked transfer: fixed price agreed at booking.
- DAMRI: ask at the counter for your route's fare.
The traffic tax
This is the hidden cost nobody warns you about. In most cities, a 25 km airport run costs roughly the same whenever you make it. In Jakarta it does not: sitting still burns meter time, so the identical trip can cost noticeably more at 08:00 than at midnight. If your schedule is flexible and your hotel is near a station, the train sidesteps the problem entirely.
Train plus a short hop
For reaching central Jakarta, the train at Rp 70,000 is by far the cheapest and most predictable way in. If your hotel is not walkable from Sudirman Baru, take a short Grab from the station — priced in the app, and a short intra-city hop rather than a 25 km slog through the expressway. For most travellers going to the CBD, that combination beats a door-to-door car on both cost and time during the day.
Is the train always the right answer?
No. It wins on price and on immunity to traffic. It loses if you have heavy luggage, small children, a late-night arrival after the last service, or a hotel nowhere near the line. Those are real reasons to take a car — just get the price from the app or a booking rather than from a guide.
