Kotoka International Airport is only about 10 km from central Accra, which keeps transport costs relatively low. Official airport taxis
The taxi rank outside Terminal 3 arrivals has branded vehicles with semi-fixed pricing. You still negotiate, but drivers at the rank are used to dealing with international arrivals and prices are broadly consistent between them.
There are no meters and no published tariff, so we cannot honestly give you a fare for Osu, Accra Central, East Legon, Cantonments, Airport Residential or Tema — a number here would be one traveller's negotiation, frozen at a moment when the cedi was worth something different, dressed up as a rate.
The way to arrive with a benchmark is to open Uber or Bolt and price your exact destination before you approach the rank. That gives you a live figure from the same city at the same hour, which is the only fair yardstick for the negotiation. Fares run higher after dark, when drivers know your alternatives have thinned out.
Ride-hailing apps (Uber, Bolt)
Both Uber and Bolt work well at Kotoka Airport and are consistently the cheapest option. You need mobile data to use them.

Hidden costs to watch for
- Toll booth at Tema Motorway: If heading to Tema, there is a small toll — negligible in itself, but drivers sometimes claim a much higher amount for it.
- Night surcharge: Unofficial but real. Taxi drivers charge more after dark. Uber and Bolt show surge pricing transparently.
- Luggage fees: Some taxi drivers try to charge extra for large bags. Agree on a total price before loading luggage.
- Currency confusion: The cedi has depreciated significantly in recent years. Check the current GHS/EUR rate before your trip. Airport forex rates are typically 3-5% worse than city rates.
- Traffic delays: A pre-booked transfer and an agreed taxi rate are fixed before you set off, so gridlock costs you time but not money. A ride-hailing fare reflects conditions at the moment you book — which is exactly when rush-hour surge is at its worst.
