Late-night arrivals at Manila's NAIA come with a paradox: the traffic that makes daytime transfers painful disappears, but so do many of your transport options. Here is what to expect.
The Silver Lining: No Traffic
Manila's traffic is one of the worst in Southeast Asia during the day. But after 10 PM, the roads clear dramatically. A drive to Makati that takes 90 minutes at 6 PM takes 15-20 minutes at midnight. If your flight arrives late, the actual transfer will be the fastest and smoothest part of your journey.

What is Available After 10 PM
Pre-booked private transfer: Available 24 hours. The driver monitors your flight and is waiting when you exit. This is the most reliable option for late arrivals. Prices do not change for nighttime pickups with most services.
Grab: Available but driver numbers drop significantly after midnight. Wait times of 10-25 minutes are common, and you may need to try multiple times before a driver accepts. The app works, but patience is needed.
Yellow airport taxis: Some are still available late at night but the queue is thin. You might walk out to find five taxis or none. Not something to count on. The meter tariff does not change at night, and with empty roads the time-based part of it barely runs.
Coupon taxis: The counter inside the terminal may still be operating for late flights, but hours vary by terminal.
Bus (UBE Express): Limited late-night service. Check schedules before relying on this.
Safety Considerations
Manila is a big city and the airport area (Pasay) is not the safest neighborhood. Standard precautions apply: use official transport only, do not accept rides from people approaching you inside the terminal, keep your belongings close, and share your ride details with someone if possible.
Pre-booked transfers are the safest option because the driver is known, the vehicle is identified in advance, and there is a company behind the booking. Grab provides similar accountability through the app.
What Late-Night Transfers Cost
This is the one part of Manila where arriving at an awkward hour saves you money, and the reason is in the tariff. The LTFRB meter charges PHP 2 per minute of travel time on top of PHP 13.50 per kilometre and the PHP 40 flagdown. At midnight there is no traffic, so the time component barely accrues — the same trip that cost you an hour of meter-ticking at 6 PM simply does not. A metered taxi is genuinely cheaper at 1 AM, for a structural reason rather than a promotion.
Grab may also come out lower late at night because demand drops, though its pricing is dynamic and never guaranteed. Private transfer prices stay the same around the clock with most services — ask when booking whether a late-night surcharge applies rather than assuming either way.
What we will not do is print a table of night fares by destination: the metered price depends on the traffic you actually meet, and Grab's depends on the algorithm at that moment. Check the app, or read the posted tariff at the taxi bay.
Recommendation
For late-night arrivals at NAIA, book a transfer in advance. The empty roads mean you will be at your hotel in 15-30 minutes, and having a confirmed driver eliminates the uncertainty of finding transport at 1 AM. If you have not pre-booked, Grab is your next best option, but give yourself time to wait for a driver.
