The JR train dominates on price-to-speed ratio. At JPY 1,230 for 37 minutes (JR Hokkaido's published fare), it is faster than driving and costs a fraction of a taxi. If you hold a Japan Rail Pass, the ride is included at no extra charge. Fares are revised periodically — check the current one before you travel.

Saving money
- Japan Rail Pass covers the JR Rapid Airport train — if you have one, this ride is free
- IC cards (Suica, Kitaca) work on the train and throughout Sapporo's subway — load one at the airport
- Since the April 2026 bus fare revision the train is both cheaper than the bus and about 50 minutes faster, so the train is the default
- For a group, a private transfer splits per person and buys you door-to-door convenience — get a quote and compare it against the train fare for your party size
Currency tips
Japan is still partly a cash society. Withdraw yen from the 7-Bank ATMs in the airport 7-Eleven — they reliably accept international cards.
