Trapani-Birgi Airport with Children and Luggage

Airgest states that all toilets at the airport have changing tables. For other family facilities, ask at the airport services office on the ground floor, which the airport lists next to the baggage belts and first aid rooms.

Getting to the accommodation with children

Plan for an arrival day of up to an hour on the road. Our route estimates put Trapani at about 33 minutes, Erice about 30 minutes, Marsala about 26 minutes and San Vito Lo Capo about 54 minutes.

Coaches: Airgest lists scheduled connections with Trapani, Marsala, Palermo, Sciacca and Agrigento, with tickets sold at the airport ticket office. Ask the operator about luggage and child fares, which the airport page does not list.

Taxi: the rank is at the terminal exit. Airgest publishes a fixed fare of 35.00 EUR from and to the airport for Trapani and for Marsala. For other destinations, agree how the fare is set, and the total, before you set off.

Pre-booked transfer: request a child seat when booking and give your child's age and weight. A larger vehicle can be requested for strollers and bags. Check your booking confirmation for the meeting point.

Child restraint rules

The Italian Highway Code, article 172 paragraph 4 as published by the Automobile Club d'Italia, says children up to 1.50 m travelling in taxis or private hire vehicles with driver may travel without a restraint if they do not sit in the front seat and are accompanied by a passenger aged 16 or over. This is an exemption for those vehicle types, so ask your provider what is arranged if you prefer a seat.

Practical tips

The terminal is closed from 00:30 to 04:30 according to Airgest, so if you land late with children, confirm how you will leave before you fly. Keep water, snacks and children's essentials in your hand luggage.

The bottom line

With strollers, several bags and tired children, a door-to-door ride usually saves the most effort.
