Trapani-Birgi Airport Transfers: What You Actually Need to Know

Trapani-Birgi Airport (TPS) serves western Sicily. The airport operator, Airgest, says the airport is connected with Trapani and with Marsala, Palermo, Sciacca and Agrigento by scheduled coaches, that a taxi rank is at the terminal exit, and that car rental offices are inside the terminal. A pre-booked private transfer goes to your address.

Note that Airgest states the passenger terminal is closed every day from 00:30 to 04:30. If you land late, plan the road in advance rather than at the terminal.

After landing you collect your bags. Airgest describes the ground floor of the terminal as having the baggage belts, waiting rooms, a cafeteria, the car rental offices, the airport services office and first aid rooms. Charging points for phones and tablets are listed in both the departures and arrivals areas.

The taxi rank is at the terminal exit, in front of the main doors. Coach tickets are sold at the airport ticket office.

Check the entry requirements for your nationality with your airline or government before you fly. If your flight is delayed, tell your transfer provider and check the booking confirmation for how delays are handled.

Coaches: Airgest lists scheduled coach services between the airport and Trapani, Marsala, Palermo, Sciacca and Agrigento, and says tickets are sold at the airport ticket office. Coaches follow fixed routes, so a further taxi may be needed at the end. Fares and timetables are set by the operators.

Taxis: The rank is at the terminal exit. The service follows rules set by the municipalities of Trapani and Marsala. Airgest publishes the tariffs, including fixed fares (see the pricing section).

Pre-booked private transfer: The price is shown when you request a quote on this page and confirmed at booking. If meet-and-greet is included in your booking, the driver meets you as stated in your booking confirmation. This suits families, groups and destinations not named on the airport's coach list, such as San Vito Lo Capo or Erice.

Rental cars: Airgest lists car rental offices in the terminal.

Ride-hailing apps: Availability was not verified, so do not rely on one as your only plan.

Airgest publishes the taxi tariff for journeys starting at the airport: initial charge 3.00 EUR, minimum fare 14.50 EUR, 1.50 EUR per km including the return, and waiting time 20.00 EUR per hour, which can be charged in fractions.

It also publishes fixed fares of 35.00 EUR from and to the airport for Trapani and 35.00 EUR for Marsala. Other destinations are not covered by a fixed fare on that page, so agree how the fare is set, and the total, before you set off.

The airport page does not list coach fares; ask the operator or the ticket office. For a pre-booked transfer, the price appears when you request a quote on this page and is confirmed at booking.

Airgest states that the passenger terminal is closed every day from 00:30 to 04:30, and that this can change for operational reasons. If your flight lands close to that window, check with your airline and make sure you know where you will wait and how you will leave.

The airport page does not list night hours for taxis or coaches. Coach timetables are set by the operators, so ask for the last departure before you rely on one. A delayed flight can mean a missed coach.

At night, a plan that does not depend on a timetable is calmer: a taxi from the rank with the fare agreed first, or a pre-booked transfer arranged with your flight number and address.

Airgest states that all toilets at the airport have changing tables. For other family facilities, ask at the airport services office on the ground floor.

The airport's families page explains that on board an infant under 2 travels on an adult's lap and a child from 2 to 12 has a seat of their own. For the road, the Italian Highway Code (article 172, paragraph 4, as published by the Automobile Club d'Italia) says children up to 1.50 m travelling in taxis or private hire vehicles with driver may travel without a child restraint if they do not sit in the front seat and are accompanied by a passenger aged 16 or over.

Even so, if you want a child seat for a pre-booked transfer, request it when you book and give the child's age and weight. Do not assume a taxi at the rank has one.

Check the coaches if: you travel light, your destination is Trapani, Marsala, Palermo, Sciacca or Agrigento, and you have confirmed the timetable.

Take a taxi if: you want to go straight to your address, and Trapani or Marsala is covered by the fixed fare, or you are happy to agree the fare first.

Book a private transfer if: you travel with children, a group or luggage, your destination is a smaller town, or you land late, close to the terminal's closing hours, and want the arrangement confirmed before you fly.
