How much it costs to get from Lisbon Airport to the city

Lisbon Airport is only 7 km from the city centre, which keeps prices low across all transport options. Here is what you will actually pay.

Metro: EUR 1.90

The cheapest option by a wide margin. The Red Line (Linha Vermelha) departs from Aeroporto station inside the terminal. A single Carris/Metro ticket costs EUR 1.90 and is valid for one hour — that is Metropolitano de Lisboa's published tariff, in force since 1 January 2026. You also need a reusable navegante ocasional card, which costs EUR 0.50 (the old Viva Viagem card has been replaced). If you are going to keep moving, a 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket is EUR 7.25.

The journey to Alameda (where you can change for other lines) takes about 15 minutes. To Baixa-Chiado it is around 25 minutes with one change. Metro operates from around 6:30 AM to 1 AM.

There is no Aerobus

Older guides — and a lot of blog posts — still describe a yellow Aerobus shuttle running to Marquês de Pombal, Rossio and Cais do Sodré for a few euros. It does not exist any more and it is not among the transport options the airport lists. Do not stand outside arrivals waiting for it. Regular Carris city buses do serve the airport if you want a surface route, at the normal city fare.

Taxi: EUR 10-15

Taxis use the meter, and the airport's own guidance is EUR 10-15 into the city centre, including luggage fees. The airport is close enough that the meter does not run far; traffic during rush hours (8-10 AM, 5-8 PM) is the main thing that pushes it up. A night tariff applies in the evening and costs more.

One caveat worth knowing: Portugal's national taxi pricing rules are being rewritten. A new regulation was published in June 2026 and then had its start date postponed while the sector's objections are worked through. Until that settles, the honest advice is to read the tariff card in the cab rather than trust any printed figure.

Taxis queue at the official rank outside arrivals. Do not accept unsolicited rides from people approaching you inside the terminal.

Rideshare (Uber, Bolt, Cabify)

All three operate at Lisbon Airport. Pick-up is in the designated rideshare zone at the front of the terminal. None publishes a fare table — the app shows you an upfront price before you confirm, and it rises during surge periods such as weekend evenings and bad weather. That quoted number is the only one worth planning around.

Pre-booked transfer: EUR 20-35

Fixed price booked in advance. A sedan to central Lisbon typically costs EUR 20-35. The driver meets you in arrivals. No surge pricing. The price does not change if your flight is delayed. Minivans for larger groups run EUR 35-55.

Costs to specific destinations

Only the transfer column is a fixed price agreed at booking. For taxis, the one figure with a source behind it is the airport's own EUR 10-15 into the city centre; the rest depends on the meter and on a national tariff that is mid-revision, so we are not going to invent ranges for them.

What makes prices vary

Traffic is the biggest factor for taxis and rideshares. The N2 and Avenida Almirante Reis routes into central Lisbon can back up badly during rush hours. The A1/A8 motorway access is fast to Oriente but less useful for the old city.

Time of day: Taxis switch to night rate after 9 PM (not midnight like some countries). Night fares are typically 20% higher. Transfer prices remain fixed regardless of time.

Destination: Anything east of the centre (Oriente, Parque das Nações) is actually closer to the airport than Baixa or Belém.

The value calculation

For solo travellers, the metro at EUR 1.90 is virtually impossible to beat. For a couple, a taxi at EUR 10-15 is reasonable at EUR 7 each. For a family of four, the transfer at EUR 25-30 is comparable to the taxi (EUR 15 + luggage) but more comfortable and with a guaranteed meet.
