Boryspil Airport (KBP) – current status and how people reach Kyiv

Boryspil International Airport is not operating passenger flights. Ukrainian civil airspace has been closed since 24 February 2022. Ukraine's own NOTAM (A0095/25) closes the Kyiv flight information region to civil aviation, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's Conflict Zone Information Bulletin (CZIB-2022-01R13, revised 26 January 2026 and valid until 31 July 2026) tells operators not to fly in that airspace, "including landing and departures from airports located in the affected airspace".

If you are trying to reach Kyiv, you cannot currently fly into it. Travellers reach Ukraine overland — most commonly by train or long-distance bus from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania or Moldova, flying into a neighbouring country first. The airport itself is intact and maintained, its status is suspended rather than closed for good, and a number of international carriers have said they intend to return once it is safe. The Ukrainian government formed a working group in March 2026 to plan a phased reopening. But there is no reopening date, and reopening depends on the security situation rather than on a timetable.

Because no passenger flights land here, we are not publishing airport transfer prices for Boryspil. Any figure for a SkyBus ticket, a taxi or a private transfer from this airport would be a number for a journey nobody is currently taking, and fares in Ukraine have moved a great deal since 2022. When flights resume, check fares with the airport and the operators directly rather than trusting a page written in advance.

The rest of this page describes the airport's situation rather than a transfer you can book today. We would rather tell you the airport is shut than sell you a taxi fare for it.

Boryspil has two passenger terminals, D and F. They are being maintained and modernisation work has continued through the closure, so that the airport can restart quickly once permitted. The airport company remains active and has been promoting a return to service to international airlines.

What you will not find is a working arrivals hall for scheduled passengers, a taxi rank serving arriving flights, or the SkyBus and rail links running as an airport transfer service. Those exist as infrastructure, not as a service you can currently use off a flight.

The usual pattern is to fly to a city outside Ukraine and continue overland. Rzeszów and Warsaw in Poland, Kraków, Košice, Budapest, Bucharest and Chișinău are the common jumping-off points, with onward trains and coaches into Ukraine. Ukrainian Railways runs long-distance services to Kyiv from the western border.

Journey times are long — an overnight leg is normal — and border crossings add time. Schedules, routings and prices change with the security situation, so check directly with the rail or coach operator rather than relying on a figure quoted anywhere else. Check your government's travel advice before planning any trip to Ukraine.
