Stockholm Bromma Airport to the city: what you actually need to know

Bromma Airport is about 8 km west of Stockholm city centre, making it one of Europe's most conveniently located airports. The fastest way into town is a taxi or pre-booked transfer, taking 15-20 minutes. For public transport, take tram line 31 (Tvärbanan) from the stop right outside the terminal — Swedavia, the airport operator, points passengers to it directly.

One thing to know before you plan: the Flygbussarna airport coach that used to serve Bromma no longer runs. Vy Flygbussarna ended the route on 24 December 2024, citing much-reduced traffic at the airport. A lot of older advice online still tells you to catch it. Bromma is a small, domestic-focused airport, so everything else moves quickly.

Bromma is compact and low-stress. Most flights are domestic (from Gothenburg, Malmo, Umea, and a few other Swedish cities), with some limited European routes. There is no immigration check for domestic arrivals.

Baggage claim is a short walk from the gate. The terminal is small enough that you can see the exit from the carousel. Luggage usually appears within 10-15 minutes. Once you have your bags, the arrivals hall leads directly outside to the bus stop and taxi rank. The whole process from landing to standing outside can take as little as 10 minutes on a good day.

Tram line 31 (Tvärbanan) is the public-transport option, and it goes to the airport itself. Swedavia's own guidance is about as clear as it gets: "Take tram line 31 and get off at the stop Bromma Flygplats (Bromma Airport)... You will see the airport tram stop on the left as you walk out of the terminal." It is part of the SL network, so it takes a normal SL ticket bought in the SL app or with an SL Access card, and connects into the metro and commuter-rail network rather than running straight to Central Station. Check sl.se for the current fare and the fastest connection to your address — SL revises fares periodically and we would rather send you to the source than print a number that quietly goes stale.

The Flygbussarna airport coach no longer exists at Bromma. Vy Flygbussarna ran it from 1992 until 24 December 2024, when the company withdrew the route because traffic at the airport had fallen so far. If a guide, a forum post or an AI answer tells you to take the airport bus from Bromma to Cityterminalen, it is describing a service that was cancelled. Note also that the ordinary bus lines that used to serve the terminal were reorganised when the tram arrived, so old line numbers are unreliable too.

Taxis are lined up outside arrivals. Sweden's taxi market is deregulated: there is no municipal tariff and each company sets its own prices, which is why no honest guide can quote you a single fare. Swedavia's advice is worth following literally — only taxis with an agreement with the airport use the rank, you should ask whether the company applies a fixed price, and if you are given one it should be entered and visible in the meter before you set off. Every Swedish taxi must also display a comparative price (based on a standard 10 km / 15 minute journey) in large black digits on a yellow sticker on the car. That sticker is how you compare two cars in the rank in about five seconds. Established firms include Taxi Stockholm and Taxi Kurir. Avoid unmarked cars.

Uber and Bolt both operate in Stockholm. The app quotes you a price before you confirm, and it moves with demand, so the number you see at the moment you book is the only meaningful one. Pickup is from the departures level or the general pickup area outside.

Pre-booked transfers offer a fixed price with a named driver meeting you in the arrivals hall — the price is set when you book. Useful if you want certainty, especially for early morning flights or if you have a lot of luggage.

Bromma is 8 km out, so this is a short ride by airport standards and the spread between the options is narrower than at Arlanda. What we can tell you honestly is how each one is priced, not what it will say on the receipt:

• Tram line 31 (Tvärbanan): a standard SL ticket, bought in the SL app or with an SL Access card. Current fares are on sl.se.
• Taxi: no fixed tariff — each company sets its own. Compare the yellow comparative-price stickers at the rank, or ask for a fixed price and see it on the meter before departure.
• Uber/Bolt: quoted in the app before you confirm; moves with demand.
• Pre-booked transfer: fixed at the time of booking, whatever the traffic.

We have deliberately removed the fare ranges that used to sit here. Swedish taxi prices are set per company and change without notice, and any figure we printed would be a guess dressed up as a fact. The yellow sticker on the car and the price in your app are the real numbers.

For destinations outside central Stockholm, expect to pay more with distance — Södermalm or Östermalm are comparable to the city centre, while Nacka, Solna or other suburbs cost more depending on direction.

Bromma has limited operating hours and most flights land before 10 PM. Late arrivals are rare, but if your flight is delayed, options narrow. The tram runs to an SL timetable that thins out late in the evening — check sl.se for the last departure on the night you land, because that is the detail that decides whether you have a cheap ride or no ride. (There is no airport coach to fall back on: Vy Flygbussarna withdrew it in December 2024.) Taxis remain available around the clock, and rideshare apps work overnight, though with fewer drivers and sometimes higher prices. If you know you are landing late, a pre-booked transfer removes the uncertainty.

The tram is step-free and the stop is metres from the terminal door, so it handles a suitcase or two without drama. With a stroller plus multiple bags plus a tired child, though, a car is simply easier. Child seats are not standard in Swedish taxis. If you need one, you must request it in advance, which is easier with a pre-booked transfer. The terminal itself is flat and accessible, with elevators and ramps throughout.

The taxi rank is directly outside the arrivals exit. It is clearly marked, and only taxis with an airport agreement use it. Pre-booked transfer drivers typically wait inside the arrivals hall holding a name sign. The terminal is small enough that you cannot miss them. Rideshare pickups are usually from the departures level or the short-stay car park area just outside. Check your app for the exact pin. The tram stop is on your left as you walk out of the terminal.

Choose tram line 31 if you are travelling light, on a budget, and happy to connect onto the metro or commuter rail for the last leg. The stop is right outside the door.

Choose a taxi if you want door-to-door service without pre-planning — and compare the yellow price stickers, or agree a fixed price and see it on the meter before you move.

Choose a pre-booked transfer if you have heavy luggage, are travelling with children, need a child seat, or want a fixed price with someone waiting for you.
